When it was announced in May of 2016 that lead singer Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, the band decided that they would do one final run of 15 dates across Canada.A National Celebration was the final show of the Tragically Hip's Man Machine Poem Tour recorded on August 20th, 2016 at the K-Rock Centre in their home town of Kingston Ontario.Containing all 30 songs from the night's set-list, the recording captures an unparalleled, nation-linking occasion. Originally aired live by CBC across all platforms, the concert was experienced by an estimated one-third of Canadians, among the biggest events in the country's broadcast history. Their last show ever
Great concert by the boys. Gord's voice is a little rough at first, but he gets better as the show goes on and the band is stellar throughout. It's amazing, sad, glorious, and heartbreaking all at the same time. A great show by a brilliant band.

Fully and Completely Excellent!
I love it! Then again, I have to admit to loving everything by The Hip. The band is excellent - and as ever - highly underrated. Gord Downie is mesmerizing - as he always was. I love all of these songs and miss Gord. The only thing I did not like is that they left off about 60 other songs that I would have liked to have seen performed live.

Great concert. First portion Gordie's voice is a little rough but he is sick. It takes a lot of strength to get up and do a really long concert when one is when is well and he did it when terminally ill. Great power. Band was awesome. His passing is a true loss to music.

Highly recommended!
Emotional final performance from a great underrated band! R.I.P. Gord Downie. Their lead singer who past way too soon. Their music will live on. A worthy document.

iconic last testament of the hip
I shed a tear watching this blu-ray. Few things are more o canadian. Gord downie is truly missed. But I snapped out of it because whoever authored this blu-ray should have included dolby true-hd, instead of merely dd. But at least that is a step-up: when this show was broadcast live on ctv, it was in glorious mono.

20.08.16 Canada was closed today.
20.08.16 Canada was closed today.

A great way to remember The Hip
30 great tracks in one live, epic performance. Emotional at times given the nature of the show. This shows how well these 5 musicians work together.Vocally some of the tracks are not as good as the originals on CDs, but still a great show. I can't think of any UK group that would have approx 1/3 of the population (21-22 million) watch a show like this.
