Works Great on Racoons!
I live out in the boonies and have a big yard with gardens, bushes, trees, the usual in a big yard. My veggie garden is about 40 yards from my house. I have a raccoon that likes to come around and leave a big pile of his poop in the middle of my onion patch. It is disgusting and I am constantly scooping it up with a shovel and disposing of the stuff. Next night - another pile. I have purchased a pest repeller in the past, but it requires being plugged into an AC outlet and I only have those up at the house. I hate running extension cords and the plug-in units are not supposed to be out in the rain. So, I have to run out when it rains and unplug the thing. Being 40 yards from the house, it is too far for the repeller to be effective, so I was looking for another solution and ran across this neat device. What sold me on this unit:- solar powered! I could set this anywhere in the yard that got enough sun to keep the battery charged.- It only activates when there is a movement close by. Therefore, the battery lasts all night without a problem.- You can set the sensitivity so that it activates at different distances from the unit. In my case, I opened it up for maximum sensitivity to give me maximum distance.- It has 5 different frequency settings that are supposed to affect different critters. The repeller comes with a nice chart that shows pictures of the critters affected by the different settings. So, you have a starting point for each kind of critter you are trying to keep out of your yard.- The repeller is solid construction with a glass covered solar panel on top. It looks like it will last for a while.- There is a white round window that protrudes under the broadcast speaker that appears to be the device that detects movement. When you get within range of the repeller, a light goes on in the window showing you it has detected movement and is emitting a sound that is supposed to bother critters. My experiences after a week of using:- The first setting that shows effectiveness against a raccoon is setting #2 which makes the repeller emit tones between 15.5 kilohertz and 25 kilohertz. So, that was my first test. I set out the repeller about 3 feet away from where it normally deposits its nice pile of poop. The time I set it out was about 10am in the morning so it had time to charge for that night. Sensitivity was set to max or all the way to the right. The next morning when I went out to see if it worked.... Big pile of raccoon poop was right there. So, setting #2 did not work for raccoons. The other critters shown for setting #2 are a skunk, a badger (I think), and I am not sure what the last critter is - maybe a cat. The drawing could be improved some to make it more recognizable. Since I am not trying to get rid of those critters, I cannot say if #2 or any setting works for them.- So, the next setting I tried that showed effectiveness was #4. This shows that it is supposed to work against raccoons and I think a warthog or a pig with tusks. This frequency is 34.5 kilohertz to 40 kilohertz. So, next morning - NO RACCOON poop! Wow! This was amazing. I hate to brag about getting excited about raccoon poop, but there it was - none! So, I let it go at setting #4 for another 2 days and there was no sign of raccoon poop in the garden. Great! The repeller works against raccoons at setting #4.- So, time to test setting #5 which broadcasts a wide range of frequencies from 13.5 kilohertz - 40 kilohertz. This setting covers the whole range from low end to high and has all the critters shown as being effective against. This test went for another 2 days and still no raccoon poop. So, this setting works because it covers the frequency that is generated in setting #4 plus all the others listed - and is supposed to be effective on rats, mice, dogs, fox, mink?, birds (no!), bats (no!), coons, warthogs?, badgers, cats?, and skunks. Rabbits are not shown, so I guess that is pot luck. Some of the drawings are hard to tell what they are. Like what I called a dog looks more like a husky or it could be a wolf. So, the bottom line is that the frequency range of 34.5 khz-40 khz works on raccoons. We feed the birds and bats are good to have around, so I would never permanently use setting #5 which includes the frequencies disliked by birds and bats or setting #3 (25 khz - 34.5 khz) which affects birds and bats. Where I have my repeller set up is about 50 yards from my bird feeder and I didn't notice birds not coming to my feeders, so I think the 50 yards is far enough away to not affect birds. I am 70 years old, but I have pretty good hearing. I can't hear any tones coming out of the repeller's speaker, but I can see the light go on when I get close to the repeller, so I know it is doing something. So far, my pesky raccoon is not hanging around my garden, so that tells me this repeller is doing its job against raccoons. I can't talk about any other critters, but I have not seen any rabbits down by my garden, so that is a good thing as I know they are in the neighborhood. This is a great device at a reasonable cost with adjustments that let you pick the critters you want to keep away and not others you may want to keep around. Some of the critter drawings could be improved so that you can easily tell what each critter shown really is.

First one stopped working after 2 weeks, replacement stopped working after 3 days.
Worked for 2 weeks and then stopped. It seemed to be working fine and then the day I threw away the box it stopped and won't come on again.Update: because it seemed to be working I ordered another one hoping the first one was just defective, but no luck. This one worked fine for about three days and then has stopped. It is getting enough sunlight to recharge and no one has tampered with it. Both of them were just set up as directed and stopped working.

A REAL review that you can count on
I rarely write reviews and YES I'm a real buyer, husband & homeowner. Honestly. That said...This product works EXACTLY as advertised so I just HAD to take a few minutes to give it a great rating. We had a black feral cat constantly lounging in our back yard and just generally being a nuisance. Nothing we did deterred him from returning every day to his new favorite area right under our outdoor patio furniture. As animal lovers we wanted a gentle way to move him along without taking more drastic measures. NO MORE UNWANTED VISITOR! Also, since our BACK yard borders a bayou (Texas) we occasionally had rabbits, armadillos, stray dogs, etc. appearing in our yard at night. PROBLEM SOLVED!The product is very easy to set up and worked right out of the box. No assembly needed just a hammer to pound the stake into the dirt. From mailbox to functioning in about 3 minutes. No pesky batteries to remember because it's fully solar powered. I also like the fact that you can swivel it on its stake to aim it at the area you want to target. The price is unbelievable especially since we didn't want to spend a lot of money on what we were unsure of at the time would actually work. Best investment ever. No sprays, powders, pellets, etc. Now my wife wants me to order another one for the front yard!

GET RID OF COONS - THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS!
We have been dealing with raccoons 💩 by our pool deck and on the steps. We tried cayenne pepper, trapping, motion activated water sprinklers, fake snakes, alligator heads with none of the above working. This was the last straw before I went on a rampage on those nasty pooping critters.Put it out the first night and no 💩. It has been over a week and not one sight of poop nugget or any sign of coons at the pool.I would definitely say this has worked 💯 percent and is a hell alot better than trapping or killing them.

After 2 days, seems to be helping against squirrels.
We've had a groundhog problem with our garden (trapped and removed 9 so far this year) and with squirrels in our fruit trees. I've had these for 2 days so far and as far as I can tell it has reduced the half eaten peaches I'm seeing under the peach tree. I'm using setting "5" There are several frequency settings to target given animals, but setting 5 targets all of them. I can just barely hear a whine when they trigger, but my daughters hear it loud and clear (and don't like it) One nice thing is that the solar panes are glass, which, while more fragile, should last a lot longer than the epoxy-potted type thatget fogged, requiring a re-surface every year or two.

Needs many hours of sunshine to maintain battery charge
Works as advertised, but must be placed in a sunny location to keep the batteries charged. I put in an area where it got 8 hours of sun and it was dead by the next day, so needs more like 12 hours of sun to keep the batteries charged. Adjusted for maximum sensitivity causes false activation and eats the batteries up faster, so set it and walk across its path to be sure it will see movement, then decrease sensitivity to what is needed. If it is looking towards a road, I will be triggered by passing cars at night and will drain the batteries faster, too.

Not happy and not sure it is returnable
This did not work! My husband took a picture of a bunny right next to it. There were also peanuts buried right next to it. I almost think it attracts the animals. Not happy and not sure it is returnable :(.
