The George Formby Songbook Paperback – 19 Jan. 1985

I must for every George Formby fan and ukulele/banjo player - a good selection of his popular songs with words, music and those all-important chord-diagrams. My only criticism is that it only contains twenty-two songs and some of my own, particular favourites, such as 'Our Sergeant-Major', 'I'm The Ukulele Man' and 'Grandad's Flannelette Night Shirt' are not included. Still, a good buy and a cracking good selection nonetheless!

If you're looking for a book that has the complete musical transcription and lyrics of a lot of his songs, this is for you. As a songbook it is very detailed. Notes and nice chord boxes.It doesn't however have any information on split, fan or triplet strokes; and doesn't even mention them. Also none of the fabulous solo's are there. So if you are looking for a book with those, you probably shouldn't buy this book as it's certainly not a tutorial!Seeing as I hoped at least a bit of this kind of stuff would be in this book, it will probably sit in the closet for some time before I will use it. I will keep it, because its good and an asset to every ukulele or banjolele enthousiast; but in all honesty would probably not have bought it (yet) knowing this.

The print on some of the songs was very small, Also the quality of printing not great on some songs the chord boxes were quite hard to read.

Very useful book, sheet music for many of the great man's most popular works complete with chord boxes for ukulele. Just bear in mind that for about half of the tunes you'll have to use D or Eb uke tunings in order for the suggested fingerings to come out in the written key (as indicated in the book), or work out your own uke chords from the symbols provided (good exercise!). But a valuable addition to any ukulele library all the same.

A good publication with many popular Formby songs. If the names of the ukulele chords had been printed as well as the diagram, I would have given the book five stars.

Not for a beginner. But looks good. Lots of songs

These songs are such fun. Full piano parts, with lyrics and ukulele "shapes". With the uke making a significant comeback these days, this book would make a good present for the player who is looking for a challenge. These are not "easy" arrangements, but quite playable with practice.

The chord symbols are rather small for reading and the melody line is written with peculiar rythms but I take it they are from original manuscripts. They are not that easy to play if you are a beginner as they are quite a lot of chord changes.

It's the only Songbook i could find. But it is a very good one. If you have a Ukulele or Banjolele and want to learn Formby's songs, buy it.Ein absolut gutes Buch. Ich bin sogar ein wenig überrascht, da es das einzige ist, das ich überhaupt finden konnte!

I'm a strum and sing guy and I play the chords only for the most part. These are not clear at all in this book. They are not letter marked often and instead there is the chord diagram but it's almost unreadable due to a very poor print job. The songs are great however.

George Formbys songs are likely to put a smile on your face.Fun lyrics, accompanied by Uke chords and notes so one can grab a Uke, have someone sit down by the piano and have everyone else join in on the lyrics. A good time for any family, or group of friends who enjoy music and fun lyrics.

This folio is a compilation of George Formby Music Hall / Vaudeville hits from the 30's. My only disappointment was that so many of his classic comic songs were not included. Overall, it's a good cross section of his huge body of work.

Personally, I am a huge George Formby fan; so when I stumbled upon this songbook, I had to get it! Everything is written clearly, and it includes everything you need for each song. I have looked at it nearly every day since I got it. I am eager to learn all these songs! Finally, I should add that these are pretty advanced songs; I am a intermediate player, and I am challenged by some of these. I would recommend to anyone who is serious about learning these songs. Overall, great product, great song list!

it was exactly what i wanted.

The typography of this songbook is horrible. In many places you can't tell what the chord change is because of the bad typesetting. I was really disappointed with this selection. I was going to send it back but I kept it just for the limited number of songs that I can read and sing. Try another song book but don't buy this one...save your money.

Great time on my ukulele with George

Absolutely delighted with the song book, delivered very promptly and was well packed. Not the first time I've purchased from Amazon and it sure won't be the last. Sylvia
