AGAIN, AGAIN!!!!!!
This was for many many years only accessible on VHS and with it being on DVD is an absolute god send! I was taking to a friend of mine, whom I got into Alan Partridge, as he is probably my favourite comedy character/show ever, and I mentioned this and he'd never heard of it so I decided to come on here on the slight off chance it might be coming out. I typed it in and there it was, available for DVD, instant buy, no thought! This particular DVD is split into 2 different show:The first is just 'Paul Calf's Video Diary' which documents Paul's and his best friend's, Fat Bob, Daily antics. Along the way they make a new friend, Roland, who is a student and Paul hates students, yet through their hilariously heated first scene they find friendship. From there they plot to help Paul get Julie back, with the help of Paul's sister, Pauline, which provides some utterly hilarious moments. The second show is Three Fights, 2 Weddings and a Funeral which follows Paul and Fat Bob documenting the days leading up to Paul's sister's, Pauline, wedding to a suspicious Greek man called Spiros (who is played by the same fella who plays Roland the student from the first show). I don't want to go too much into his one without ruining anything but I would like to say that it is brilliantly funny.I would love to be able to try and do this justice by quoting or explaining the scenes in it but I just can't! Just BUY IT, it's amazing!!!

"Mam have you seen me pants?"
Probably the funniest thing I have ever watched. Taped it off BBC2 when I was about 14 not really knowing what it was. Watched it so many times I killed the tape. Then owned a proper VHS version and almost did the same to that. DVD now safely in the cabinet. One almost a first date with the girl I married, this was mentioned and it turned out she had pretty much done the same. There's always a quote from this lurking somewhere that relates to every day life. That's why Coogan nails it with Paul Calf and Alan Partridge.BBC replayed it during the last couple of years and there was an additional scene at the back of the cinema/cafe where Paul gets lashed with Fat Bob after getting blown out over the free cinema tickets. I almost cried with joy. Would love to see more deleted scenes.Excellent cast, brilliant script. My world would have been sadder without this.

Steve Coogan Is A National Treasure
I was really pleased to go back to Steve Coogan's early characters. Not only are they incredibly funny but it is a realization of how this brilliant performer and writer has continually grown in stature over the years. Anyone who is even remotely a fan should watch this production and if you are one of the millions of keen followers you are in for a real treat. Steve's depiction of a long haired wayward gay teenager is one of the most brilliant pieces of comic acting genius i have ever seen and the memory of it always produces chuckles of joy. Thank you Steve.

Paul Calfs's Video Diaries
I first watched this years ago when a mate lent me his VHS copy. I spent years trying to buy a copy myself on DVD format and was delighted to discover that someone possessed the good sense to release this classic. Watching it now it is as funny as it was all those years ago. I'm not a huge Coogan fan but like most people find Alan Partridge compulsive viewing. In my opinion the Video Diaries are up there with Coogan's best works

Brilliant! Why's it not on DVD yet?
Absolutely hilarious depiction of Manc lad Paul Calf, with his Chuck Norris haircut and total inability to function as a respectable citizen. Meet his mate Fat Bob, sister Pauline Lulu Calf, and two appearances by playwright Patrick Marber, as Roland the student and Spiros ("like a Greek god, only fatter and with a tache"). Very funny scripts and set-ups, this is a character Coogan ought to revive (Calf in his 40s, still on benefits despite getting four numbers once at the lottery?). One grumble - why isn't this on DVD yet? - my VHS is getting worn out.

"Like a power tool, like Black and Decker, again,again......"
As with the previous reviewer I had waited for these to come out on DVD for ages having owned the VHS version. These are two of my favourite ever comedies. Paul Calf and Pauline Calf are genius comedy inventions and these two brilliant films are probably the highlight of their "careers".How to make "normal" life so funny is Coogan's real talent and the fact we can all relate to what goes on in Paul and Pauline's world just make it even better. So many great lines ("I'm not wearing dead mans pants")it's just brilliant.

Still terrific!
Though the video quality in particular has dated poorly, the performances and script still make this something of a classic. Steve Coogan is watchable in most things (unless you count some of his dodgy US movies) and as Paul and Pauline Calf he really demonstrated what a talent he was. Good to see so many of his acting friends with him early on who went on to inhabit the world of Partridge. This isn a DVD that I will return to in the future for reviewing.
