HEADS UP... NEWLY DESIGNED SPOUT -- read before using
The can comes with a newly designed spout (different from the picture). It's a black spout with a red button on it. Supposedly, the instructions on using the spout are on a big product label affixed to the can. Mine had none.Go to YouTube and do a search for 'Midwest Can'. The company posted a video on how to properly use the spout. It is near impossible to find out how to use it without doing research on your own and you'd probably end yo throwing the spout away. You need to push the red button in then press down hard on the spout tip to vent it, then release. Next you need to press the red button again, rest the hook located above the button on the bottom side of the gas tank opening, then put downward pressure on the spout so it retracts into itself and the vent opens.A lot of the negative reviews revolve around struggles with this and reviewers are recommending to dump it.

Impossible and Dangerous Spout
I purchased this gas can as a replacement for a very old metal container. There is nothing wrong with the new plastic container itself, but the 'safety' spout is absolutely terrible. It is virtually unworkable, requiring you to hold the can with one hand at an awkward angle while trying to manipulate the absurd mechanism to allow the gas to pour. This is absolutely the dumbest design imaginable.I managed to fill a walk-behind lawn mower, but only after spilling some gas because the spout is not angled enough and I could not shut the spout fast enough. After I was done there was gas left in the spout which did not make it into the mower and also did not drain back into the can. When I later attempted to fill a lawn tractor there must have been a pressure difference between the can and the outside air, so when I pushed back on the spout to release it, the gas in the spout SPRAYED ALL OVER THE TRACTOR. Imagine if the tractor had been running and I was refilling a hot motor. The 'safety' spout is more dangerous than if I was using an open container and a funnel. If you buy this can, plan on immediately spending more money to buy a replacement spout. Better yet, don't buy it at all.

Check for screws around the bottom before filling.
Well I just received mine. Took it out to the gas station and filled with gas. When I got home notice there was gas leaking from the can somewhere. Believe it or not, there was a small screw in the bottom corner that had been screwed into the can. I kid you not, a screw was in the corner of the can and it was leaking gas slowly. Thank goodness I still had my old 5 gallon can and poured the gas into it. I cannot return it because I have had gas in it, so I was out 22 bucks. I already taken it to the dump, wish i had gotten a picture of it to post here.

Ignore the bad reviews
These cans are just fine. Ignore the bad reviews. Push in the red button until you hear a click and it locks into place. Turn can upside down, push the little hook on the spout against whatever tank neck you are filling, push down a little to start the flow, and pour your gas. Doesn't leak, works great, no problems at all. Twin handles are handy too. I have the suspicion that some of these bad reviews are coming from people who simply don't know what they are doing with this can...I'll buy these yet again in the future one day if I need more. I've had zero problems at all with these gas cans..

Beware when filling up this gas can.......
So I bought this gas can as I needed an additional container for gas when filling up my tractor. How hard could this be right ? I finally got this gas bottle and was really excited. It seems quite sturdy and strong. I'll give it that much. On pumping gas into it at the gas station, my jacket sleeve got all wet with gas, as the pressure from the pump bounced back from a white, plastic filter mechanism that's inside at the opening of the can. Eventually to get it full, I had to try my best to pump at the lowest possible speed. In the meantime, around the bottle on the ground is all wet with gas, including my shoes and clothing. My question is, has the persons who designed this actually tried pumping gas into the bottle at a gas station ? Poor design I believe. I'm gonna have to try and buy another bottle as this one takes forever to get full, without making a mess. I guess I'll just blame the gas station for having powerful pumps !!

I thought these were a great design, I was wrong.
I purchased two of these gas cans and I hate them. I think they have a good idea but it is poorly executed. The first thing I don’t like is how the spout works, you have to press a button on the side of the spout then press a hook into the thing you’re trying to fill to force the spout in. That will let the fuel start flowing If you let off the pressure the spout will push forward and the fuel will stop, you then have to press in the button and push the spout against the item you’re feilling again. Another problem with the system is suction, because the spout actually seals tightly and any temperature changes cause the cann to go into a vacuum. Both of my cans have sucked in sides and are no longer square. you may be thinking to yourself so what if the sides are sucked in? Well my 5 gallon can only holds about 4 gallons of fuel now.

Fabulous can, the nozzle is amazing. No spills
I've always disliked trying to see inside the tank when I'm trying fill from a gas can. It's almost impossible to stop the gas flow just as the tank gets full. This Midwest can and safety nozzle works perfectly. Does the job better than anything I've ever used. It's very much like the hose and nozzles we all use at the gas station. Click the red safety switch, insert nozzle in tank until the catch hooks onto the lip of the tank and press down. The gas stops automatically without spilling a drop.

I Dislike this Can Nozzle
I don't like this can, mostly because of the stupid nozzle. The environmental freaks decided this design was going to save the world, but in reality, it ends up dumping gas everywhere. It's a stupid design and should be banished.

Completely worthless
I should have listened to the other negative reviews on this product. The container itself is fine, but the spout is absolutely the most worthless design I have ever seen. If you buy this you should also buy another spout, because if you try to pour gasoline using the included spout you will get gas everywhere and probably all over yourself. I had to purchase another spout just to get the gas out of the container and I will never use this product again unless it is an absolute emergency. BE WARNED - you absolutely WILL NOT be able to pour gasoline from this container into your vehicle. Do not buy for this purpose.

Great gas can except for spout
Midwest makes a great gas can. Top and side handle is great for carrying and pouring. The government required spout works fair because they are hard to use and that goes for any brand gas can safety spout. I get this can and replace the spout with the EZ-Pour spout. A few dollars more for total cost but I get the Midwest can whenever I see a sale price.

CAN LEAKS
I used this can for the first time yesterday to get gas for my lawn tractor. I took the nozzle off a half a dozen times and put it back on and I could not stop it from leaking. It's not a small drip, it's a serious leak when you go to pour. Definitely a safety hazard.

does the job
Bought this and struggled to use the safety feature, after watching a video on how to use this can i was able to properly handle the spout. The spring tension in the spouts locking mechanism is pretty tough, which seems to make many people frustrated. After learning how to use pressure on the spouts device without using my hand i was able to use the can to the best of its abilities.i would recommend but people need to make sure they know how to handle the safety features before use

Watch out
Looks great but the spout stick straight up and the cap which has a wide brim will get knocked off, which it did in the back of my pickup while it was snowing and guess what got filled with snow? The other 4 cans caps stayed on tight. what a dumb design.

Having two handles works
I love the ease in pouring with two handles unlike other 5 gallon gas cans which have only one handle for pouring. I did have to buy a kit to replace the self sealing spout which is very awkward to use. I bought a kit with the flexible neck spout, vent cap, spout can seal, and flex neck screw cap. Kit and can combination is the way to go.

Amazing! No dropping, just gas where you need it
Just read the instructions, they are under the label. This can only lets the gas flow when you unlock it (click the red clip) and push the edge. You can turn it upside down and it will not let a drop go. To get the flow going make sure the pipe slides back, just a gentle push holding the lip against the opening of the other container.Great invention, love it, no more gas al over the boat.
