I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the battle ...
A thoroughly well written account of the part the 4th Parachute Brigade played in the battle. Especially as it acknowledges the origins of the brigade's battalions coming from regiments such as the Royal Sussex. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the battle and WW2

Very disappointing
Very disappointing! My Grandfather was in the 4th Parachute Brigade and for the last 10 years or so I have tried to learn as much about their actions at Arnhem as possible. Whilst I am not claiming to be an expert I feel I have a little bit more than a basic knowledge and was horrified to see so many basic errors in this book. There is an action by the 11th Battalion which is credited to another unit, officers with the wrong ranks, officers belonging to the wrong units, loads of waffle and unnecessary annexes. However my Grandmother told me stories of how Fred (my Grandfather) often mentioned officers and how some were good and some were not so good. So I was very interested to see when this book was first advertised that the Brigade ‘contained several officers who were either unfit or unsuitable for Airborne command.’ This was one of my main reasons for buying the book and cannot find any comments to back up this claim. Very disappointing. If you want to learn more about the actions of 4th Brigade you would be better to get a copy of From Delhi to Arnhem about the 156 Battalion and Arnhem Their Final Battle on the 11th. Hopefully when Graham Warner’s book on the 10th Battalion comes out we will have three decent accounts on the major units of the Brigade.
