Excellent guide for new and seasoned IT pros
If you have not brushed up your resume in the last few years or just beginning your first one, this is book is a great resource. The author goes step by step through each section of a resume and clearly explains its function and how to maximize its impact. As a seasoned IT professional that has been out of the job market for a while, I had not realized how much resume building has changed. This book takes the stress out of figuring out margins, fonts, spacing, headings and gets you thinking about how best to communicate your experience. As someone who has also done a fair amount of recruiting, I appreciate that he encourages a balance between technical skills and soft skills (or life skills). This book is an easy read and well organized so when you get into developing each section, you can go back and easily reference the author’s advice. Writing a resume can be an bit overwhelming and this book is a huge help. The only other advice I would offer is to take notes about your experiences in real time, then its very easy to add them to a resume when the need arises.

The College Textbook I Wish I Had...
This book reminded me of a course I took in college, which was offered by the career services office. The course included mock interviews and a hands-on resume review, both of which were very helpful. However, I still remember the accompanying textbook; it was insufferably long and was written like a thesis, not a practical guide. This is not a textbook - it's better. It is concise, easy to follow, and is a completely practical guide to putting together a solid resume. The advice rings true whether it's your first resume or you're polishing up an old one. The author maintains his integrity (never lie, if you need to add something to your resume, gain a certification, join an organization or volunteer for something), while providing a framework that anyone can follow to increase the odds of getting an interview. I particularly enjoyed the focus on creating a balanced resume (life skills are important too) and the concept of using the resume to hook the hiring manager. It's a few bucks well spent.

Good value at this price, but you'll probably want to supplement it with other sources.
Provides sound advice and is very concise. Advice is tailored to various IT positions. Can be read and absorbed in less than one hour. There is only one sample resume, and I think most readers will want more. Good value at this price, but you'll probably want to supplement it with other sources.

Great IT Resource!
This was a great resource for updating my resume. I have a couple older books for building resumes, but neither works well for my technical background. This one hits the nail on the head. Unlike other books I've seen, this book is all about IT with advice and sample resumes that are current and relevant. It also gives examples and guidance for specific areas of expertise (e.g., systems analysis, programming, management). so if you're a software engineer, DBA, programmer, tester, systems analyst, IT consultant or CIO, this book is an invaluable resource. Wish I had this years ago.

Best Book for this Purpose
I am an instructor at a technical college. We require a job search class for graduating IT students. I switched to this book, required for the purpose of offering resume advice. Of course there are many valid designs for a resume, and students need more than 1 example. But overall I found this is currently the best book for this purpose. Things the students like best: quick, relevant reading; term lists to use in building your resume; reasonable price.

Practical, Indispensable
Decided to test the waters in the job market after several years with the same company—was very concerned that my efforts would just end up in an HR black hole (as this is my first foray into the job market in the “age of social media”…). This book was recommended to me, and I was pleasantly surprised by its conversational tone and practical approach for updating both my resume and job search techniques—I found the breakdown of chapter by IT occupation and sample resumes particularly useful for reference. Existing IT professionals will immediately recognize the author’s up-to-date expertise in the field, and those looking to start in IT can be confident of the book’s worth. Very excited to see what my search yields—highly recommended!
