This is a warm hat, and I find it too warm for high activity unless it is brutally cold (sub zero). It's great for walking and sitting on cold days. It's too warm for anything in the fall/spring.The ear flaps actually cover the whole ear, and they are stiff enough not to flap around in the wind. The cinch strap is good for windy days. The brim is good for sun/rain/snow protection and it folds nicely. I can stuff the hat in a jacket pocket.I got the L/XL and it fits, but my head is about as big a head as will fit. I was hoping to use this as a summer cap, but between getting the darkest color and how well insulated it is, I think I'm only going to wear it in the fall and winter, or on rainy days.
