Use a heat gun or a hair dryer. It’ll loosen the sticky stuff.

Yes, the backing is super sticky. We overlapped a few 6” pieces to cover a 5”x 2” rip.

Sort of. Better than nothing, but I'd think of it more like a "soft" sand paper if there were such a thing.

Q: Can this be used on pool stairs under water?

the grip on this tape is outstanding. I used my rolls on 1' x 1' tile indoors to stop my two 95lbs German Shepherds from falling and slamming into walls as they rounded corners indoors at full speed. flawless. i also used it outside on my deck stairs to increase grip for the last 4 or so months without any indication of product failure due to weather. I have not used it under water, but I have it on the kitchen tiles and have spilled many liquid products on it adhered to tile to no effect. grip is solid, and short standing water does not effect it. as long as the contact surface you are applying to is smooth and without air gaps, you are good. if your steps are ribbed or do not allow full adhesion, I would say you will only get effective anti skid from a paint on type not a tape.
