Bit of self modification goes a long way.
I have brought many items on Amazon at varying costs from £ -to £££ and never left a review. So why for the first time for such a low value item. Its not the cost, its does it exceed expectations. We replaced a freezer in an unheated outside building and wanted a remote monitor in the kitchen to keep an eye on the temp as the old one had packed in and we new nothing about it till we needed something from it. I'm sure what I have done will fill the manufacturer with dread and in validate the warranty etc.. But its only a few quid so worth the risk. The probe comes with a 2m cable which was not long enough for my purposes so with the use of a soldering iron and some thin instrument wire I extended the lead to 10m. From what I can see so far it works perfectly. It will probably shorten the battery life form the manufacturers 1 year but other than that the temp still seems to be within manufacturers tolerance and checks out with a normal analogue freezer thermometer. The original probe cable is a bit thick and didn't allow the door seal to fully close leading to some local icing so again invalidating the manufacturer warranty I removed the outer protective sheath exposing the two thin insulated wires where they pass through the door and this has made for a better seal. PS The unit has everything you could want Good temperature range, Max - Min, Alarm and uses AAA Battery not silly button ones.

I think it is fairly good. I do not agree it being over-sensitive
Just what we were looking for! It has two temperature sensors, one is built in to the body and the other sensor is at the end of the probe cable (there is also a plastic case that has two-sided tape on it to attach the probe inside fridge/freezer, outdoors). I have the thermometer attached to the lid of the chest freezer, with the probe placed inside the freezer, hanging off one of the shelves, not thouching anything. The cable is thin enough to bring it outside. I think the magnet attachment is not strong enough to keep the thermometer from sliding down, so I have supported it with a different fridge magnet. In terms of accuracy, I think it is fairly good. I do not agree it being over-sensitive, it is just a matter of finding a suitable place to leave the probe. It takes the reading every 10 seconds, giving the temperature a moment to stabilise before taking it. I have set the alarm between -12'C and -24'C and it beeps a few times when the temperature is outside the range and beeps again after a while if the temperature is still outside the set limits. I love that I can go back and check the highest and lowest temperatures since the recording was last reset - at least I can be sure nothing funny has happened since I last checked. I do not think the volume of the alarm is high enough though - you would need to be either in the same room to hear it or have a very quiet house :)

Ok
No problem setting up. Works fine. Would have liked a louder alarm and would have liked it to sound continuously rather than intermittently. Other than that all ok.

Cool Gadget
I'm sure that by its very existence, having a bit of cable coming out of the freezer will remind me to close it properly.Just in case I have this; it was a doddle to set up, don't understand the negative comments, the instruction are clear and pretty much the norm for electronic timers etc. Was. Also pleased to see it didn't come in a bubble pack so I didn't slice my fingers open or cut it in half with a scissors.Oh, and the alarm volume is fine for me to hear in adjacent room.

Could be louder.
Rigged this up to freezer as door doesn't always shut properly. Seems to detect temperature every ten seconds or so which is fine, but the alarm only beeps for a few seconds then goes off and is really not very loud, certainly wouldn't hear it in another room. However just having it mounted above freezer means everyone is conscious of it and shuts door properly!

Lab quality, would buy again
Lab quality, would buy again- Measures to .1 degrees Centigrade (also an option for Fahrenheit but I haven't used it)- main unit has magnets on the back so that it can be mounted on the front of a fridge/freezer/cooler/incubator and the external probe can be placed inside the cooling unit.- the wire does not create a huge gap in the door seal so does not visibly affect the performance of the cooling unit (although mine has quite a soft seal)- accurate when checked against a standard mercury thermometer (I checked it at a range of temperatures between 2 deg C and 25 deg C)- main display shows current temperature of either the main unit or external prove - you can toggle between them with one button- records min and max- alarm option but I have not used this function so can't comment on its reliability

Tricky to set up and alam only works on the sensor on the cable. But more importantly it's too quiet you can't hear it more than a metre away

Bleeper kept going off.
Sadly had to be returned. We bought this thermometer to let us know when the freezer door had been left open. Unfortunately had to be returned because it did not keep the freezer door closed completely and therefore the bleeper kept going off.
