SAMPLE: LeafsOut 5” WIDE, DIY Micro Mesh Rain Gutter Guard – 6" LONG, Stainless Steel

This product is well-made, and it does an EXCELLENT job keeping leaves out of the gutter. Unfortunately, while it also blocks pine needles, the needles on our New England pine trees are fine enough that they manage to get stuck upright in the mesh, and after a while enough of them accumulate so they have to be removed by hand. What's particularly bad is the needles can't be brushed off, but have to be pulled out of the mesh. While this reduces the need to climb an extension ladder to once a year, it doesn't eliminate the need, so in our application the product is "OK". Zoom in on the attached picture to see a "plucked" section and a section bristling with pine needles.I'm also a bit concerned that any water from melting snow tends to freeze up and block the mesh - particularly on the side of the house that doesn't face the sun - so there's a nagging question in the back of my mind if these might contribute to ice dam formation.

After looking at many gutter products at the Sacramento Home show and on Amazon I liked what saw and read about LeafsOut. I ordered the 6" inch sample, liked it. Called LeafsOut and picked up four 4r foot sections; two 7 inch and two five inch. LeafsOut is close to our home. Installed the four sections. The purpose, to test before ordering 220'. Placed the sections at the base of a long valley and either side of the valley. Very easy to install. The directions are excellent. Did not screw down, the metal lip holds it in place. It is raining and the LeafsOut is working. 3" is predicted to fall Saturday. I'll let you know what happens.

Received sample in short amount of time. This just a sample of the LeafsOut Micro Mesh. The construction appears to be very sturdy and appropriate grade of materials to stand up for lifetime, I have not seen this product installed. I do have a concern - I have maple trees that produce a stringy flower and cottonwood trees in the neighborhood - both of these materials might have the potential to adhere even to the micro screen. I would like to hear from other customers that have experience with this type of tree debris before buying micro screen for my gutters.

It's great that one can get a short sample of the gutter guard to test with one's gutter. In my case I will have to bend the back edge as I can't slide it under my shingles. I ordered the full-size set and the instructions included are VERY detailed.I tested the water runoff and water passed through like it wasn't there. The bead of silicone helps break the surface tension and pulls more water into the gutter.

Ordered the sample. They sent a real small piece. Looks like a well made product.

Most gutters are not created equal. The manufactures of this Micro Mesh Rain Gutter Guard should have different size available to customers. This Micro Mesh Rain Gutter Guard is a little small for my existing gutter. Thus I did not order more.

I got the samples, and I think they would work very well. However, on the project they were intended for, with dark green gutters and a visible angle on the roof, we decided the stainless steel stood out too glaringly. I'd probably use them on my own house, but on higher end homes a color matched gutter topper is probably a better choice.

I liked the fact that the product is reasonably well constructed, and is not as expensive as some of the others on the market. The part that tucks under the shingles should be thinner, or the product re-desiged so it's not tucked under the shingles. Tucking under the shingles is probably ok for steep roofs. I opted not to tuck it under the shingles (4:12 roof), and modified the screens using an alternate solution.
