Q: I want to use this on a metal bed. I feel like it will rub off on the bedding. Do I need a sealer to keep it from rubbing off on cloth?

It should not rub off if you let it "set up." However, if you are planning on coating their bed frame with it, you will not find it adequate. It is more for adding highlights to the embossed design and in that capacity it is very good. I tends to dry out and will need a little drop of solvent from time to time. If you want to cover large areas, you will want to get a metallic paint.

Q: Can this be used on a fireplace suround?

Gilders paste dries hard but is a bees wax paste. If the object you are using it on does not come in to close a proximity to the heat then I believe it could be used. I know body heat does not seem to bother it when I use it on clay or metal.

Q: can this be used on clothes

Because it is only "paint thinner soluble," I would discourage using it on any kind of material. Think of it as a very thick paint. Or try it on something you don't care about and go from there.
