PlayShapes: Triceratops Board book – April 4, 2017

Dino! Everyone loves a dino and toddlers are no exceptions. These PlayShape books are not quite like holding the “real” thing in your hands, but a great substitute. Preschoolers and toddlers can be fascinated by all kinds of critters, especially those dinosaurs. Ever heard a little one roll the names of some of them off their tongue? Board books can be the start of the obsession with dinos, one that doesn’t end for a long time.The PlayShapes books are very well-made board books, made for little hands to peruse over and over again. The flexible binding / hinge on the top of Triceratops’s backside appears to be sewn in. It reminds me of the good old days when they used to know how to bind a book, but I digress. Triceratops’s shape is a perfect one to fit in small hands measuring 5-7/8” (L) x 4-1/4” (W) x 5/8” (D). Very well-made, high-quality board book.Inside, of course, is what really counts. Triceratops, who met T. Rex in another PlayShapes book is off on a journey, a journey in which he’s letting T. know that he can protect himself. “If another dinosaur attacks me, / I lower my head and charge! / Watch out for my three pointy horns!” No spoilers here, but the little tale is short, sweet, and lots of fun. This is a cute book that we take with us to restaurants to keep the little one content. The shiny pages can be wiped clean which is nice. Not a lot of words..or much of a story, but we're not at that stage yet.. so it works for us. It is very small but it's easy for a toddler to turn the pages.
