Lister Legato Trimmers

Bought for occasional horse and cattle trimming. Last a long time on a charge and do a great job. Could even do my own no. 1 with these (but I won't!).

I purchased the Lister Legato Trimmer earlier this year because my Cocker Spaniel isnt happy going to the groomers. My sister has a Lister Legato which she uses to clip horses and her dogs. Her clippers worked so efficiently when we tried it on my dog that I thought I should get one myself so that I could keep my dogs coat short and tidy. However the Lister Legato Trimmer I purchased doesn't seem to work properly. Ive kept the blades clean and oiled as instructed, but one minute it will cut her hair and then all of a sudden it wont. Every so often Ill try it again, telling myself it must be something Im doing wrong. But Ive followed the instructions and still they don't work properly. I very rarely order on line and have resigned myself to the fact that if id made my purchase from a local shop I could have taken it back and got a refund. I have emailed the company I purchased these clippers from with a LONG list of the problems I've been having and they have chosen to ignore my message. So my recommendation, for what its worth, is to buy from a shop and avoid Lister Legato!

Bought these just to trim feathers on a horse and half face. They worked well twice then stopped and started making a strange noise. Returned to purchaser and they have repaired them. Not happy as they literally had been used for 30 mins on fine hair. I have a set of Lister Star and love them. I am not impressed with the Legato though.

I bought these clippers to trim my horses legs and to clip the dog, since he is too old to go to the groomers. I used them twice and they clipped really well, occasionally struggling with thick hair, but that's expected. However after the second clip, they made a strange noise and didn't clip the coat. They kept clipping on and off leading to an uneven finish and a real annoyed user! I have used them well oiled with new blades and this still occurred. Wouldn't recommend these.

We have had these for about eighteen months now. When new they seemed to work well, we invested in a new set of blades I have sharpened using a whet stone. According to the manufacturers this is the problem, to sharpen them it is necessary to use a precision lapping machine with a 0.178mm convex curviture that uses a diamond paste. This should be done every season and you should be able to sharpen a blade ten times in its life. Listers will charge about £14 to sharpen a set of blades, there are alternatives on the internet at about half this price, I think I will give one of these a try.

Can't rate these highly enough for the price-dont be tempted by slightly cheaper alternatives, these are the trimmers you're looking for for a quality finish even shaving shaggy ponies that you'd swear were genetically linked to the woolly mammoth!
