## Description

From the manufacturer The Fisher Bullet Pen Made In The USA When it comes to pens, if you’re anything like us you can’t settle with just any old plastic ballpoint. You expect and deserve more from your pens - much more. Our 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility is located in Boulder City, Nevada, where our products are precision assembled, both hand and machine tested. Writes in Extreme Conditions Writes at any angle- even upside down Writes underwater and over wet surfaces Writes in extreme temperatures from -30 F to +250 F Writes in the gravity-free vacuum of space The original Bullet Space Pen was conceived in July of 1948 by Paul Fisher, who was soon machining a new pen design shaped from solid aluminium. This became our first Fisher ball point pen, the #400 Bullet Pen, and arguably the most popular pen of the twentieth century. This pen is now composed of all brass with a chrome finish. Cited as an outstanding example of industrial art, the classic design of the Fisher Bullet Pen has been exhibited for years in the New York Museum of Modern Art. Fishers Pressurized Cartridges The secret behind the unique capabilities of our pens lies in the ink cartridge itself. Our refills are hermetically sealed, pressurized with nitrogen gas, and feature a tungsten carbide ballpoint tip - the same extra hard metal that is used to make armour-piercing ammunition. No longer relying on gravity to write, our pens are able to function at any angle, even upside down. In order to prevent leaks from the gas pressure, our ink has to be thick, thixotropic to be exact. Fisher ink is actually more of a gel than a liquid when it is at rest, with a consistency similar to that of toothpaste. It is only when pressure is applied to the ballpoint that the ink will take on the spreadable properties of a liquid, while still retaining the stickiness needed to adhere to nearly any material. Facts and History of the Space Pens The story of the Space Pen really begins with its inventor, Paul C. Fisher. Before he took to making pens, Paul worked in an airplane propeller factory during World War II. It was there that he gained valuable experience with ball bearings, knowledge that would come in handy down the road for creating ballpoints. In the end he had developed what he considered to be the perfect pen – a pen with ink that would not be exposed to air, rely on gravity, leak or dry up, and that wrote underwater and in extreme temperatures. His breakthrough happened to be perfectly timed with the space race and he offered the pens to NASA for consideration.

Review: The perfect EDC writing implement - Purchased to compliment my Rite in the Rain Notepad - and the combination is ideal. In fact, was useful the first day I had it, to jot down a phone number whilst out walking in the rain. The pen comes nicely packaged in a quality printed card box, containing a solid transparent plastic case, holding the pen in a little "mood scape", underneath which is some interesting "history" reading. The package is nice for gifting purposes. The pen itself is made of coated brass, so longevity and durability should be great. I tested writing on my waterproof notepad whilst it was fully submerged in water, and it functioned perfectly. I then tried writing upside down, on the wet paper and again - perfect! Closed, the pen is simply tiny! I slip the secure pocket clip into the binding spiral of my notepad, and the pen sticks out either side of the pad by a tiny bit. I can then slip both into my breast pocket for EDC. Open, the pen is elegant and comfortable to hold and use. It's about the same length and diameter of a normal good quality pen. A little o-ring holds the lid/end-cap in place when closed, and requires only a very slight force to remove. I wouldn't feel confident that the cap would stay firm under duress i.e. clipped to a shirt pocket when doing an active job like warehouse work or similar. I can't say for certain that it would come loose, but it feels like it could. When open, the cap needs to be only lightly pushed onto the pen body to hold firm enough for writing. It came with the Fisher medium nib and black ink installed, which I find writes smoothly and easily, and does a fine job for general everyday use. I enjoy knowing that I have a reliable writing implement (that won't snap at the wrong second like a pencil can) with me at all times, that's so small and understated, that it doesn't impede my daily doings. Great product :-)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fisher Space Pen Bullet Ballpoint Pen
*by M***S on 18 May 2026*

A great pen that functions well. Recommended.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really nice pen.
*by J***X on 11 May 2015*

This is a very good pen that will last for many years. It has a metal body and lid which makes it strong but not too heavy. When closed, the pen is quite small and easy to store in just about any pocket. The pocket clip can be removed but it requires a bit of force to do so. The body of the pen is only about 1.5mm longer than the ink cartridge inside it. By attaching the lid to the bottom of the pen it makes the pen much longer and easier to hold. I have taken some photos of the pen beside a plastic ruler to show it's exact length. There are also some photos of the pen in my hands with and without the lid in place to give an idea of how it looks. I'm 6'0" tall and have x-large (size 10) hands. I can confirm that the pen works well, the ink is smooth to write with and it feels like any good quality pen - the difference with the Space Pen is that the ink cartridge is pressurised and it will write on damp paper or at any angle. Fisher also claim that the cartridge holds 3 times as much ink as a Parker Pen, but I haven't tested that yet! In the photo of the ink cartridge that I uploaded, the piece of white plastic is an attachment that lets you use the ink cartridge in a standard Parker Pen - it isn't used in the Space Pen itself.
