Worked as expected - but not as desired
The Cymbal Mute worked as advertised - it reduced the sound level of my cymbal as advertised. As others have noted, getting the mute onto the cymbal was a bit tricky. I resolved this by using a small clip/clamp to act as a "third hand" - this made the install easy. This was not the reason for my lowered ratingAs a relatively inexpensive option it worked fine to lower the volume; however, it also made the cymbal sound quality less than I had hoped for. To get the quality I wanted, and to make practicing more realistic, I moved to low volume cymbals (at a much higher cost) instead.

Does what it says but didn’t do what I hoped
We tried to use this on some zildjian gen 16’s but it took away the edge sensitivity of the digital output.

Great design, very effective
The cymbomute is a great design and very well-made. It is extremely effective at muting any cymbals including hi-hats. Just be aware that this product basically completely kills the sound. The only place you get a decent sound when using these is on the bell of the ride. I had read other reviews that said the same thing, and they are correct. I wish there was a solution that would cut the sound by 75-80 percent, but I don't care for the rubber pads on the cymbals. 5 stars since it does exactly what it is designed to do, even thought I'm still interested in something better for my purposes.

Perfect!
They're not as hard to put on as others have complained about. Just hold up the cymbomute on one end, push the edge of the cymbal to it and push both to your abdomen. Then start running your hand all the way around the circumference of the cymbal, aligning the cymbomute as you go. It's not rocket science. As far the the muffling, WOW!! These really kill off the sound, amazing!! Thanks to these I can now practice with full dynamics at home with no remorse for my neighbors. One thing to note is that I did leave them on for the first 48-72 hours so that the crease would get "stronger", because at first they had a tendency to pop off on some hits. But once I left them on for a couple of days, they no longer pop off while playing, so I can take them on and off as is recommended.

Wont stay on the cymbals
The concept of this product is great and if I could get them to stay on the cymbals they would serve my purposes perfectly, problem is I cant for the life of me get these things to stay on the cymbals. Almost every time I give a meaningful hit on my crash cymbals they jump off, and if I even bump the one on my ride it falls off. I've had to resort to putting 6 pieces of tape around the top and bottom of each cymbal to even give them a chance of staying on and even then after one session the tape comes loose and they jump off again. I would expect for the money in paid to outfit my set with these that they would actually do their job with no extra effort but I'm left wishing that I would have just saved the money for actual practice cymbals.

Really terminates sound!
Takes a little getting use to to put on. I love these. They mute the f out of the cymbal really not ringing and when tou hit theres no great effect its more like those cymbals from rockband no give. But thats what i want when im practicing. I would say if moon gels arent doing the trick this is it. You should be able to play these in a full house without too much complaint.

Alesis Surge
I know they are for real cymbals, and mine are real Alesis Surge Electronic (bronze) cymbals. They look great but clack loudly. Ordered this (and other sizes for my set of Surges) and they are all working great to reduce the clack. The directions say to fold in half before first using and I really think it helps. You almost need 3 hands to install (if you do that will make it easier) or take the cymbal off of the mount and use your chest or another surface to hold the Cymbomute while your other hands align and wrap the edge.

They work good but...
I would say get a size or 2 smaller than you need. 16/17 fits ok on a 17in cymbal (not real tight though) but is loose on a 16" and it isn't a nice fit. Other than that they are ok for practice kits.

A decent product for a great price.. If it worked
Extremely disappointed, as I thought I'd finally found a cheap and viable solution to muting cymbals..The Cymbomute amounts to nothing more than a thin piece of fabric, which stretches around your cymbal to dampen the volume at the expense of the cymbal's tone i.e. Your cymbal is much quieter but sounds terrible. However, this would be the case if it only stayed on... The Cymbomute is not only incredibly tedious to get on for larger sizes, but flys off your cymbals during use (you don't even need to hit them hard).I bought 4 for my cymbals; one for my hi-hats, two crashes and a ride. Apart from the small 13/14/15" for the hi-hats, they all felt too big for the recommended sizes and did not sit tightly on. But when trying to use one on a cymbal the next size up, they felt like they were about to rip... I imagine the reviewers who had no issues with this product, were all owners of odd-sized cymbals.. The design of the Cymbomute just appears too flawed, seeing as a lot of reviewers are reporting size and durability issues. All of the issues I've had, other reviewers had mentioned, so I'm very annoyed I took a gamble on this product. I would've been in a better position to purchase a set of low-volume cymbals had I not.TWO STARS, because for the asking price, if the Cymbomute was capable of staying on a cymbal during use, it would be a very reasonable price for this product. The ability to play the cymbal normally at a reduced volume (albeit at the expense of the cymbal's tone) is brilliant for little over £10. It's doing exactly what you want. The durability could even be forgiven, provided they're not tearing within 3 months of use at least.. However, all of this is useless if the product does not even stay where it's needed, rendering it unusable. And I'm not duct-taping them to my cymbals like some have recommended...

Highly recommend for those with out of the ordinary practice windows
After experimenting with one, I now have Cymbomutes on all my crashes. For practicing, these kill off way more sound/decibels than SoundOffs, and this means I can expand the window within which I can normally practice. Very useful product.

Doesn't stay on the cymbal
Does not work as soon as you hit the crash it comes flying off. Not happy at all such a waste of money!!!

Would not recommend buying these
I purchased a set of these cymbomutes, for my 14inch high hats, 16 and 18 inch crashes, and 21 inch ride. I agree with other reviewers that these mutes often come off, when playing them. I used gaffers tape to hold them on. I purchased a set of the polyester mutes for just over $25. I find that these cheaper mutes work just as well, and stay on better, without having to use tape. Sorry Hugh Lawrence, the inventor, I would not suggest anyone buy these, since they are not worth over $80 cdn, for the set
