Strong enough magnet and good lanyard to attach it to keyring
This is really useful if you prefer not to constantly open the charging flap, thereby maintaining waterproofing. There have been many reports, of which I've also experienced, of the flap not staying closed if it's opened too many times. Having this connector means you can always have it with you and attach it to a standard micro USB wherever you are.The magnet is strong and holds the connector securely to the phone. If you're moving your phone around a lot or the USB cord is pulled, then it will detach quite easily. However, if you're charging the phone on, say, a tabletop, then it won't come loose. Don't get me wrong, you still hold the phone and the connector with stay attached, it's just that it's fairly easy for the tension on the cable to pull the connector away from the phone. The magnetism is strong enough to be able to lift the 'phone, just don't expect it to stick as though it's been glued on.The connector is only for charging, data transfer doesn't work.It comes with a handy rubber holder and a small, elasticated lanyard - I've attached mine to my keyring so it's always with me. All in all, a very handy bit of kit and well worth the money. If you found this review useful, it would be great if you'd be kind enough to hit the Helpful button. Many thanks

Beats opening and closing that flappy little cover!
Great gadget. Good solution. Compared to opening and closing the little hatch to charge my Xperia Z3 Compact and leaving it flapping loose this thing's great! This one is way better than all the other magnetic connectors for this phone and here's why: The moulded plastic form of the connector around the magnetic area is contoured to perfectly mate with the curvature of the phone so the thing snaps perfectly into place and stays put. If you move it or bump it out of alignment it snaps right back into place unlike the other guys. There you have it.The magnet is not excessively strong in my opinion, after reading horror stories from people who somehow managed to pull the magnet out of their phone with this thing... These people must be really ham-fisted or unlucky or something. I think if one were to "ROLL" the thing off the side of the phone to detach it so the force doesn't pull straight out in the direction in which the magnet is inserted you'll be fine. I've only had it for a few days, so we'll see how it goes... I don't anticipate any trouble. So far it's a great solution and I'm happy. It comes with a little bag and also a silicone carrying caddy with a small leash so you can carry the thing everywhere attached to your phone like some kind of little black lint-collecting lucky charm if you want to, but that's not how I I roll. I leave it stuck on the end of the USB cable at home waiting for my return. I'm probably going to get another one for the car - because, again, less faff. The less you fiddle with that little hatch on your phone, the less likely it is to break or lose its IP rating. This little guy is a small victory for you.

... and my Z1 phone (non-compact) perfectly - magnet locates easily and stays put
Fits my Xperia Z3 tablet (compact) and my Z1 phone (non-compact) perfectly - magnet locates easily and stays put. Looks to be well made, although to be fair there really isn't too much to it! Charging LED is a nice touch and is not too bright, so in my opinion no problems for 'bedside' charging. REGARDING THE MAGNETS, this is the 'improved version', (apparently), and they don't seem too strong to me? I've been swapping this between both my Xperias and at no point does it feel like it will pull the connection from the phone/tablet?? In fact, I'd argue that the magnet does not feel as strong as my 2x genuine Sony magnetic cradles, so I'd be very surprised if there's a risk of damage from what I've experienced!? .............Maybe I just got lucky and don't have such a strong magnet on my connector?Edit: 4 months in of daily use, and still no issues with the magnets. I'm more than happy with this item, so I'm about to purchase a 2nd!

Too powerful a magnet!
I bought this to avoid all that cover removing every time I wanted to charge the phone. I also reckoned it would last longer than the micro usb socket. It worked wonderfully for 18 months, much better than all the other feeble ones for sale. When I removed it yesterday it took with it the connector piece from the phone. This is glued on the phone by Sony to provide a waterproof bond but the glue wasn't that strong and the magnet pulled it off. Thus good magnet bad phone connector design. A feebler magnet would in fact have been better. I have scraped off the glue and superglued the connector piece to the phone and will see if this works. It won't be waterproof anymore but I don't care.

Quality
Good Kit. An essential item.Having had my Z1 Compact repaired for a broken charging door which is a stupid, doomed to fail design in half the warranty time and waiting 1 month (+3 emails) for Sony to do this I thought I better invest in this magnetic charger. I had a cheap Chinese one which was completely useless. This one works and is a godsend. Its quick to attach effectively. No more wear on the stupid "waterproof" door seal. Why the heck can't Sony utilise their brains to provide the phone with this????Maybe so they make money repairing the phones outside of warranty when they break again and again.
