An album that revisits Ed’s singer/songwriter roots, and one that was written against a backdrop of personal grief and hope, “-“ presents one of the biggest stars on the planet at his most vulnerable and honest. Since he first learned to play ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton on guitar at the age of 12-years-old, Sheeran’s love of the singer/songwriter began. Growing up with the likes of Damian Rice, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan playing on repeat in his parents’ house – artists that his dad, John, introduced him to – “-“ was always on Ed’s horizon. Yet as the songs and writing process took on a whole new meaning and direction after a series of hard-hitting events impacted Ed’s world in 2022, one thing that remained untouched was his strong desire to make a record anchored in his love of singer/songwriter compositions. And now, as he gears-up for the release of his most soul-baring work to date, “-“ serves as a timely reminder for why Sheeran remains one of the most gifted lyricists of his generation; an artist who breaks down his own experiences for fans to seek comfort and belonging. “-“ is the result of Sheeran pushing the boundaries of his songcraft, as he delivers the most profound songwriting of his career. Teaming-up with Aaron Dessner (The National) on writing and production after the pair joined forces following an introduction from mutual friend Taylor Swift, Ed and Aaron began crafting the album in February last year. Writing over 30 songs during their month-long studio stint, the album’s fourteen tracks are seamlessly tied together by exquisite production from paired back, folk-leaning textures to bolder, full-band/orchestral arrangements. Review: Another great CD from Ed Sheeran - This album is full of heart. True feelings after Ed Sheeran's best friend died suddenly. You can feel the heartbreak in his beautifully written words. I am a fairly new fan, but I like anything he does. A truly beautiful and talented artist. The song list: Boat, Salt Water, Life goes on, Dusty, End of Youth, Colour Blind, Curtains, Borderline, Spark, Vega, Sycamore, No Strings, The Hills of Aberfeldy, Wildflowers, Stoned, Toughest, Moving. Review: Good cd - Didnt enjoy as much as others but its Ed Sheerhan you cant go wrong

What's Not To Like About Ed Sheeran?
It's criminal that Colourblind is not being released as a single...yet. It's a very beautiful song and unlike the others not nearly depressing but then, again, I'm used to listening to country singers who are always sad (and drinking). Colourblind makes my all-time Top 5 list of Ed Sheeran songs, maybe Top 3. But if this album Subtract doesn't do well, I blame the video people for trying to drown Ed Sheeran in a car (symbolic but I don't like it) in the videos for the album. He does more videos for an album than any performer I can think of but in this case of depression music, it works against him to pile on by drowning him over and over in the videos. Don't know why it took so long to get the CD. Bought it online as a download from iTunes and waited for the CD from Amazon. Maybe it's doing really well and sold out.

Now I Understand
UPDATE: May 16, 2023 So sorry for this less than positive review of Ed's new album. I'd delete it if I could. I just watched the first episode of Ed's documentary on Disney+. I had no idea of what he's been through in the past year or two. While pregnant with their second child, they found out Cherry had a pretty bad type of cancer. Then Ed's best friend, Jamal, died unexpectedly. This new album was Ed's way of coping with his concerns and loss. Having this new context for the album enabled me to realize what's behind it's understated nature. I've had more time to really listen to the lyrics. Ed is pouring out his heart & soul in this one, as he normally does, but this time it's coming from a less than happy place. If Ed is consistently one thing, I'd have to say he's always very REAL in the lyrics and music he gives us. My original post is below. I'm ashamed for making a snap decision before I knew all the facts & writing such a harsh review. 😔 ****** (Original) I love Ed Sheeran, have all of his music to date. Maybe I just need to listen to these new tracks a few more times to really appreciate them? My initial reaction to this most recent album is that it is REALLY low energy. Wake up Ed! Give us some better beats! Still love you! ❤️

This album is beautiful and emotional. I was lucky enough to hear it played live and it was a life changing experience. Love all of Ed's work, and this album is really special.

A lovely new side of Ed Sheeran
Ed is growing up and each album shows that. The songs on this album open wide the feelings he is expressing in the new adult phase of his life.heopens up far more with these wonderful more mellow songs. Nice even feel of all of these songs relate more to his fans and life. I am proud of Ed Sheeran for being so bold and honest here. I cannot afford to see any of his shows, but will continue to collect his vinyl
