Finders Keepers Records: Make Do & Mend Volume 1
This is the first in a series of 10 limited edition compilation CDs due to be released by Finders Keepers Records over the next 4-5 months. Approximately 90% of their stock was lost in the PIAS warehouse fire caused by the rioting in London on 8 August 2011 and these bargain-priced compilations - featuring tracks from their extensive back catalogue and unreleased tracks and exclusive mixes - are designed to "ease them back onto their feet" and allow them to reprint and restock some of their back catalogue and continue with planned future releases. This first compilation, curated by Jarvis Cocker, consists of 12 prime cuts from their catalogue with some of the tracks being released on CD for the first time. Highlights include the pseudo-Japanese bliss of Yamasuki and the DJ friendly 'Flight 2' by Angelo & Eighteen (a 1972 B-side!). Jean-Claude Vannier and Jacky Chalard provide retro Gallic vibes and Jane Weaver & Wendy Flower add otherworldly folkish charm.Housed in a cardboard sleeve, this is an essential purchase for Finders Keepers aficionados that serves the twin purpose of keeping the label on a sure footing and offering collectors a limited edition gem. From a collectors' point of view, some good has come out of a bad situation and here's hoping that Finders Keepers continue breaking boundaries and releasing lost and obscure global sounds to a wider audience.
