Highly recommend to anyone working with EMDR
I just completed my EMDR training and felt like I wasn't quite sure how to use it competently with clients. A lot of folks in the population I work with (SUD in a rural area) have complex trauma and are prone to dissociation. This book gives great resourcing exercises and I feel more confident working with EMDR. Also, highly recommend the four blinks version of flash; the creator references this book in his resourcing exercises so that's how I found it.

Parnell is the best teacher of EMDR
I am in awe of Parnell’s ability to make EMDR so easy to understand, but also provide so many adaptations that work! I wish I found her work before I read Francine Shapiro’s.

Fantastic resource!
I've been doing EMDR for several years, with great success for my clients. I'd made a few changes to the protocol when it seemed appropriate, but felt a bit of apprehension about not strictly following "the rules." Parnell's book was like a breath of fresh air that has invigorated my EMDR practice. She is not afraid to break with protocol when it's in the client's best interest to do so. For example, there are several situations in which she doesn't take the VOC, feeling that it interrupts the process that has begun by asking the client to bring up the trauma memory.Other gems include installing resources in addition to the safe place. These can be guides, protectors, and/or the client's adult self when working on childhood trauma. She gives a method for the therapist to clear out any vicarious traumatization at the end of each day...there wasn't a single chapter that didn't provide a new technique or approach.Reading this book is like having a down-to-earth, very wise mentor giving you the benefit of her experience.Well-written, with many case studies to bring the material to life.I first found this book in a library, and by the time I'd read the second chapter, knew I had to own it, and bought the Kindle edition, so I could highlight to my heart's content. This one is a keeper!

A must have for any EMDR Therapist
If you are just getting started in EMDR practice this is the book that I would recommend you starting with. Parnell has a real ability to take EMDR theory and clearly translate it into practice wtih real clients in a way that is easy to understand and keeps with the foundations of EMDR treatment. I attened a two day training with Parnell and even for those of us who have been using EMDR theory in our practice, she offered so many useful advanced techniques it was an amazing training. Even if you have been using EMDR this book is a great refresher, and really helped clarify many of the basic concepts in a manner that is useful in practice for so many of my clients. I can't say enough about Parnell's work and I wish I had found her books earlier on in my EMDR training I think it would have made my application of EMDR treatment so much stronger when I was first starting!

Excellent! Must read for any EMDR practitioner
I recently received basic EMDR training and wanted some additional resources to feel more confident using this modality. This book is helpful, easy to read, and yet detailed enough to give beginning practitioners more information on how to use EMDR safely with a variety of clients. This book also provides clear instructions on working with client abreactions and other difficulties. While no book can substitute for good training and supervision, it is an invaluable addition to my EMDR library. I'd also recommend Parnell's book "Transforming Trauma: EMDR."

A Therapist's Guide to EMDR: Tools and Techniques for Successful Treatment
Laurel Parnell states, "This book is for EMDR trained therapists who want to know more about how to integrate EMDR into their psychotherapy practices," and that is exactly what it does! It is a practical book that gives a great deal of useful information on the implementation of EMDR with clients. As a therapist trained in EMDR, this book has been a wonderful bridge between the training I recieved and the actual use of EMDR in my psychotherapy practice. I have used this book as both a refresher course and as a guide to answer questions that come up as I work with clients. I highly recommend this book to all EMDR trained therapists as a resource and adjunct to their library.

Clear and readable
I am researching EMDR for a 3 hour presentation I am doing and this book has been immensely helpful. I could have used this book alone to provide all the information I have needed. The authors way of writing is clear and easy to read, not an easy task on such a hefty subject.

Excellent book
This was very informative I am having emdr at present, explains the procedure well even though supposed to be for therapists it is a good insight to clients on the receiving end. The only negative didn't go into child trauma very much.
