Scandinavian Baking: Loving Baking at Home

Trine Hahnemann deserves a 'Medaljer' for writing this book!
I recently bought this book so that I could begin to experiment with a different variety of baked goods other than the French/British baking I am used to.It's a beautiful book, with lots of high-quality photos and a great variety of recipes! It gives a real insight into the traditional baked goods of Scandinavia. So far I have made the 'Medaljer' biscuits and they were very well received by my colleagues at work and really delicious...I will be making them again for certain! The apple compote (recipe provided with the Medaljer recipe) is amazingly tasty! If you're looking for a comprehensive and varied collection of recipes from Scandinavia, that are well described and from a renowned baker, then I highly recommend this book!

A 'got to have' baking book.
Have a few Scandi cook books but not baking. Saw this in a shop and quickly liked it and decided I had to look for it cheaper. (This was £8 than where I saw it!) There are lots of atmospheric photos of food and lifestyle. Recipes are clear & easy to follow. Actual recipes have some great variations that are lovely in their own right yet inspirational. Sections on cakes & pastries, breads & savouries & Christmas. It's a really nice 'feel good' baking book and already proving to be a favourite. .....and I'm not a Vine Writer!

If you don't like choux, rye bread, fruit or marzipan then this is not the book for you!
Lots of the cakes use fruit or marzipan, both of which I like. Quite a few are made from choux pastry, which I'm not keen on. Lots of the recipes are super simple. It is beautifully laid out with the text on the left page and picture in the right. Can't wait to try lots of the recipes especially from the Christmas section.

Different recipes from different countries.
Worth trying something different and getting away from the run of the mill UK books with similar type recipes. These are different because not many Brits know about Scandinavian cooking and although different is very enjoyable.

Really good looking book
Really good looking book, beautiful pictures, good recipies. As you would expect with Scandinavian cooking a fair amount of recipes with nuts in them, which is worth thinking about if you have a nut allergy sufferer you cook for. Not actually cooked any recipes yet, but looking forward to doing so.

Love this book
Love this book. I chose it because I need inspiration to bake and this book has pots of inspiration. Beautiful pictures and lots of interesting information. I like the informal and generous way the cakes are put together, full of layers and colour.

J adore

Superb, flawless, broadly authentic recipes, breathtaking photography, extraordinary delivery!
I also previously purchased the three other English language cookbooks by Ms. Hahnemann, and am inordinately impressed by them all! There are few duplications. Not only are the recipes flawless and superb, the photography breathtaking and her culinary coverage broadly authentic, but Trine Hahnemann's style and the poignancy of her delivery simply is extraordinary! Her commentaries on food, family life and the historical bases for many of the infamous social customs in Scandinavia, are literally stunning. Especially interesting, to me, is that she has lived and worked also, both in America and England, in addition to her native Denmark, thereby increasing her keen awareness of our many cultural differences, by which to make astute comparisons, etc. I have learned so much more than invaluable cooking instruction from these books, that I shall always be unusually grateful that I purchased them!
