SonyUBP-X800 UHD Blu-ray Player - Multiregion Blu-ray & DVD Code Free Player for All Zone Playback

I have a mix of discs from having lived in Europe and Asia, this allows seamless playback. it replaced a Sony UHP-H1 which I have had for eight years and had a similar conversion. The quality of playback and the ability to play 4K Blu-Rays was a key reason for my choosing this machine.You get a machine that is very well built and has near silent disc playing in the machine.There are a few downsides to the X800. Compared to the H1, you no longer get audio line out, or TOSLink digital out, only a digital coax output for audio. There is no timing counter on the front of the facia like my previous machine.The X800 seems to be slightly fussier in terms of the disc condition. It freezes on a copy of Inception that I have played several times without problems on my old machine. While the Sony UBP-X1000ES is likely to be slightly better, it's virtually impossible to buy now with a multi region conversion. This is the next best option.

If you have a collection of DVDs from different regions this is the player for you. It plays some of my foreign and Criterion collection that my other players rejected. Sony vision and sound standards are always impressive.

In the last few years sony have really got back in the game and instead of producing a bit butter than average with the strength of a household brand have actually positioned themselves as genuine contenders for best in class in all price categories. Their TVs and Projectors cannot be beaten at any price point they compete in, their blu-ray players pretty much can’t but it’s not so hotly a contested market. I’m brief it’s quite solidly built, can sometimes take a while to recognise a disc but other than oppo nobody else has got this perfect. Video and sound quality top notch. IP control very good bar hit and miss WOL function. Smart features good but lacking compared to some TVs including their own. A little behind in 4k and HDR ability with their apps. But what else are you going to buy? It’s a small market of people that actually appreciate the benefit of ultra hd video at the kind of bitrates UHD offers, and those that know thah Netflix and iTunes can’t even touch the quality of hd audio soundtracks. Unfortunately everyone else just uses their Apple TV or smart telly cos convenient.

This is a solid well built 4k blu ray player with all the bells and whistles. The multi region element is quick and easy to set. The picture and sound are perfect, nice HDR picture which wasn't the case on my old player. Highly recommended.

Great quality product... Stunning picture quality. I have a dedicated full home cinema and this fits the bill. The blu Ray and dvd multi region works flawlessly.Fast delivery and great communication.

Excellent picture and sound

Fantastic player while it lasted. Apart from it refused to play 4 or 5 discs of mine with no reason. The discs were perfect condition but it actually froze / locked up the whole machine and the only way you could get it to work again was to switch it off at the plug then switch it back on and eject the disc.Ironically i didn't get around to actually buying any 4k discs but it looked fabulous playing regular BDs and DVDs. Very quiet player too which was great as i bought it to replace the Very noisy (Sony BDP-S5500) player.As i say a brilliant player but unfortunately it only lasted 2 and a half years then one night it just stopped working, have changed the fuse in the plug but still Dead!. Absolutely gutted as now i've had to go back to using my noisy player.
