A wealth of information, cheaply and poorly presented.
The modern professional pilot is very poorly served by decent reference study material. EASA rules are mostly impenetrable, subjects like performance planning are often a dark art and very little exists to teach the student pilot or refresh the experienced aviator (me). Upon discovering this weighty tome on the internet I thought this might be the book to address that shortfall. Sadly, I was mistaken.I have a lot of respect for Phil Croucher, he is massively experienced and his knowledge base is second to none. Where he fails, however, is his ability to get that wealth of information over to the reader. For £75 it would have been nice to see some colour but I will accept production costs can limit graphics. I would certainly expect a contents list at the front but alas there isn't even that. Where the book really falls down though is at the back where there is absolutely no index - nothing at all. Any reference book lives or dies by its ability to be efficiently referenced and without an index I'm afraid this book denies the reader any way of accessing specific information quickly. At any price that is a serious failing in a manual such as this.As an example, I tried to find details of the four segments of a Class A aeroplane net flight path. After 20 minutes of searching all I found was 'see Net Flight Path, later'. After a further search I still couldn't find said reference later and I gave up.Don't get me wrong, there is good gen to be found here and if you want to read this book cover to cover then (after several weeks of hard, dry reading) you will absolutely come away wiser and more informed. But that is not the job this book sets out to perform. Without any structured cross referencing, a detailed contents list or a comprehensive index then this book is simply an expensive collection of aviation information. Until I get time and energy to write a book myself, then, my search continues...

Five Stars
First impressions are good. Probably the only drawback - very thin paper.
