Dentists are expensive. Maybe I've been fortunate, but I've never had a cavity and never needed major dental work so my biannual cleanings comprise a roughly 30 minute dental hygienist cleaning and a 2 minute visit from the dentist to tell me everything looks good. Total price = $150-$180. So my hope with this product was to clean up my teeth between visits and perhaps prolong the time between visits or even permit me to just visit the dentist annually for cleanings. Mission accomplished. This thing works.*It Is Not Comfortable to Use - But It Works*At first it didn't feel like it was on, but once I touched my teeth with it I could immediately hear and feel it. The sound is very high pitched, so much so that regular, prolonged use of this device would almost certainly cause hearing damage. However, for short periods of time, it isn't a big deal.While this does use ultrasonic waves to help remove the tarter and plaque, scraping is still required. The ultrasonic just helps remove plaque and tarter much more quickly than a standard scraper. The ultrasonic also doesn't make this more comfortable than a manual scraper. Hitting some areas below the gum are uncomfortable, but no more so than discomfort at the dentist. Just don't expect this to be more comfortable than the dentist.*Well-Made But Short Battery Life*It does feel like a well-made product, though since this is my first powered plaque remover, I can only compare it to the manual scraper. It's about the size of a highlighter but metal and a little weighty. I didn't have trouble using it, but I could see how some people could have trouble with it. Though I only use the plaque remover for a few minutes at a time, it has to be charged every time I use it. Not a deal breaker but just be aware.*Great Value For What It Does*This isn't going to replace the dentist, but with a dental mirror, and maybe help from a spouse or friend, this can definitely keep plaque and tarter under control enough to prolong the time between visits to the dentist.

I always have to get deep cleanings and days apart. This has helped maintain and I should require less now than I use this. If you have a partner having them do it for you will make the at home maintenance even better.

I always have tarter buildup when I get to the dentist so I thought this might help for between visits. I have used several times now and I just don't like it. For starters, the sound that it makes when you're touching your tooth is horrible. I was using in the bathroom and my husband in the bedroom came in to see what the sound was. It's very high pitched. Also, I really don't see anything coming off the tooth. If I use a standard pick you can see what is being removed. . . this, I really don't see anything. And I'm positive it's not because there is nothing to be removed. The point itself is not sharp. I'm not sure if the sonic nature of it is supposed to remove the tarter without it being sharp? But it really doesn't seem to do much. It's also awkward to hold. It's the size of a small electric toothbrush. . . and for a "pick" it's not really easy to hold and position. I was really hoping this would be a good addition to my dental routine. . . but I just don't think it will be. I actually have a dentist appointment next week. . . and if she says there's any improvement over my usual dental health I will update the review. . . but I'm not really expecting it.

So, I got this on a whim. This product, however, does what it should. With different speeds and accessories (to include that tilted mirror tool), it has let me take care of the minor plaque build-up on my teeth. I will tell you that it doesn't look like it's doing anything when you turn it on and look at the tip, but once you press it against enamel, you can definitely feel it. My only issue is the confirmation that one of my teeth needs to be removed, as the feel was different than my other healthier teeth. Otherwise, if you like taking care of your own mouth, this is a great addition to your dental arsenal.
