Q: Will I need to provide my own heating element?

Yes, this press does not have a heater. You will have to heat the plastic externally and transfer to the press.

Q: Can I use a small sheet of plastic such as a 10” x 10” piece to vacuum form over a small item such a crayon?

Yes. That is definitely possible.

Q: I have clear plexiglass headlight covers. Could those be used as a form to reproduce these headlight covers withplexiglass sheets?

You need a mold that is not made out of the same material as the plastics you are thermoforming. The heat from the molding process will warp it. In our experience you can have a CNC shop to make you some molds out of a solid material that isn't effected by heat such as wood, polyurethane or steel.

Q: What is the maximum thickness of the Kydex material and how much heat will the membrane take without damage?

You can form as thick of material as you would like. The vacuum press doesn't limit that. As long as the material is thermoform-able. The membrane is rated for temps over 450 degrees.
