Traditional quality and superb value.
I had been on the lookout for a good sturdy nailbrush for ages but they just don't seem to sell them in shops anymore. The plastic-handled versions all have rather flimsy bristles that don't have the 'purchase' to get the grime out from under your nails, especially the long nails on my guitar-picking hand. These brushes are just like the ones I remember from yesteryear; they're chunky, sturdy and with bristles stiff enough for the job. The wooden handles might not be as durable as the plastic versions, but it's most likely to be the bristles that wear out long before the wood gets anywhere near an unusable or unsightly state. Can't argue about the price for four of these. Almost giving them away.Want clean nails? Buy these.UPDATE 8 JULY 2015:OK, the surface of the wood tends to get a bit crappy-looking after a few months of use (a grey-black kind of mould-staining I think), but improves slightly if soaked overnight in a bleach solution. The performance of the bristles is still top-notch though so they're still the best nail brushes that I've found.I have two in use in the bathroom and kitchen, have given one to my girlfriend (also happy) and I keep one in the kitchen drawer for scrubbing potatoes (that one is hasn't become discoloured because it isn't used as often and therefore dries out properly each time).Have ordered four more in case they become unavailable, but have reduced my 5* evaluation to 4* due to the staining problem..

Is it just me?
We received these brushes a few days ago and immediately put one to use in our bathroom, using plain water with no soaps or cleaners.Later, I noticed an unusual smell that I quickly traced to the brush. It was rather pungent smell close up, something like a solvent. Thinking back to school days, was it formaldehyde that smelt like that?A simple test with another brush showed that the wood and the bristles when separately wetted, were not the source,Only when the whole brush got wet, did it smell - an adhesive for the bristles, perhaps?I looked at the product reviews and was surprised to find no mention of an odour.Hmm. Is it just me, then? Over-sensitive nose?Does the smell go away after a few uses with soaps? Is this brush a one-off so that other buyers are just not experiencing it?I contacted the seller - Concept4U - and asked for a comment.I got an immediate response ignoring my request but quoting the Terms of Sales and saying that if I returned them (which I hadn't mentioned at all) they would deduct 50% (on a £2.70 purchase). At the price of the brushes, I'm really not concerned about the money but I *am* curious about the smell. And perhaps just a bit uneasy. I've worked with some nasty chemicals over the years and get the distinct feeling that this isn't one you want to mess with.If it's just a residual odour from an adhesive, it's probably not a problem. But how would you know?In these days of cheap imports and here today, gone tomorrow suppliers, it must be very difficult (as well as prohibitively expensive) to keep any meaningful control over supply chains and quality.I might give the brushes a clean with soapy water (!?!) and if they don't improve, I think I'll just consign them to the bin and pay the extra at Waitrose. If they do improve, I'll update this review, although I'd rather like some comments from other reviewers, please.

Good brushes, last well, excellent value.
I bought a pack of 4 of these brushes 3 years ago now thinking that they were a budget item and would not last for long. Well we have one on a shelf unused, one in the kitchen used daily. one in the outside toilet and one in the bathroom. The one in the kitchen is put in the dishwasher every week. My son is a professional gardener and I am a keen and messy amateur gardener so they are well used. Not one of them looks worn out, or near being worn out. A guest asked the other day where we got them as he wants one. So budget or not they do the job well and last long enough to impress a guest.

Not long lasting
A bargain...... 4 wooden nail brushes with lots of excellent 5 star reviews but I wonder how many reviews were submitted only a few days after using the nail brushes? My first impression was these nail brushes are excellent value for money, they look great, the bristles were good for me and they cleaned my nails effectively, a five star product. Why then have I not given 5 stars? Unfortunately within only a few weeks the wood started to blacken with mould and this rapidly became worse. I decided to locate the second brush in a drier area of my bathroom but the same happened again, the wood appears to absorb the water on use causing them to go mouldy and it looks awful. They don't last very long, at least I have the short term use of 2 more new ones, perhaps they should be called '4 Disposable Wooden Nail Brushes' and I would be very happy!

Good quality nail brush
I purchased this pack of 4 nail brushes as they seemed good value for money, as well as getting a couple of decent comments from fellow reviewers. The bristles are fairly soft, but more than firm enough to get right under and clean the dirt from under your nails.I do quite a bit of gardening, and these nail brushes have proved to be very useful for getting my hands nice and clean.I guess the only potential downside to these nail brushes could be the wooden handle, as if you deal with motor oils, etc, then the wood would get grubby in no time, but I guess that doesn;t really warrant a drop in star rating...Quality product that feels like it is built to last, and the best thing..? There are 4 of them. Bargain!
