Polished Brass Rim Lock Door Rim Knob Locking Handle Set

Very pleased with brass handles and lock fitted great looks and works great.

Upon opening the packets all looked well, however once you begin to fit these locks one realises that they are poorly made. The locks themselves are flimsy as opposed to the knobs which initially inspire confidence by their weight and shiny finish. I bought five sets and have fitted three up to now. Here are my findings: Either the square opening in the doorknob is too large or the square rod that enters it is too small as once you've tightened the locating grub screw there is so much slack to take up the knob ends up 'skew-wiff' to the shaft and therefore the lock body. Furthermore either the grub screw or the threaded hole it should fit into have not been matched at all well as the grub screws were extremely stiff in the threaded hole in two out of three sets.The 'outside' door knob has a flange that is held to the door by four [rather poorly cut] screws. So of course it cannot and should not turn, the knob has to and again due to poor finishing it's so stiff in that flange that the weak return spring in the lock cannot return the lock spindle and the knob to the 'neutral' position. Only one of of the three was easy to turn. With the other two I had to sit down before fitting the knob holding the flange and turning the handle back and forth for quite some time so that the tight and or roughly finished internal rubbing surfaces eventually ground each other down a bit, brass takes a while so to do. I then added a drop of oil to improve the situation a little more. Up to now only one of the three kits employed had the right number of the correct size screws. Fortunately I have lots of screws around so it was more of an annoyance as it caused no real delay having to order more screws.Not one of the handles return properly despite me ensuring that the shaft that runs from handle to handle through the door is dead straight and not snagging on an undersized hole drilled through the door.That means that if you don't manually return the handle to the 'neutral' position as the spring isn't able to then the latch isn't protruding out of the lock body so leaving the door to perhaps bang if there's a window open.The door catch is of very thin metal. All in all if you're doing up a property to sell and this retro look is for you fit these just before you sell as I'm wondering whether to change these or take them apart, fit a stronger return spring in the lock and the fixed handle flange and handle to an engineer to re-finish. I know they're going to annoy me if I do nothing!

Would give zero stars if I could. It is about 2 months since installation and the lock has not yet been used at all. However the ends of the keys snapped clean off simply due to a fall on the floor. Clearly very poor quality or maybe just been unlucky to have got a piece with some manufacturing defect. In any case, lock is now useless and seller (DJM Direct) is refusing to action given there is no warranty included with the product. Complete waste of 20 quid - avoid.
