Good book for beginners
Good book for beginners although some explanations are not very clear.

like the other easy steps books
I'm still working through this book when I have time but it is, like the other easy steps books, easy to follow. Since I know C, C++, and Java, I'm going fairly quickly.

I used this book for school for an intro programming class. It breaks things down very simply (almost to a middle/high school level) which makes is super easy to understand There's a lot of examples in the book, and also the built in commands are listed out really nicely on the inner front cover. Highly recommended!

Clear and easy intro to Python
Excellent book, much like all Easy Steps books i have read. The instructions are clear, and they are short and to the point. As another reviewer pointed out, the examples are not particularly exciting, but i dont expect them to be in a technical book. The examples are clear and simple, and they illustrate well the information being taught.

Easy to understand colorful book.
I bought this book to learn Python programming on my Raspberry Pi. It helps a lot. Much of the information covered in this book seems to be for MSWindows computers. Well, just for the setting up. It doesn't say to put the "#!" line at the top of your program listing. I bought this book for help with a little more advanced help with learning Python. I am not disappointed.

Great for beginners, but in a crowded market there are other books
Highly recommended, but not a complete guide. After just a few weeks your children will start searching for things outside the scope of the book, but as with all of Mike's books that I have seen so far it is colourful and engaging, making it good as a first book on Python for children. This is not however as good a book as Carol Vorderman's Computer Coding For Kids, but Mike's books are specific per topic (Linux, Java, Python, etc.), whereas Carol's is a fantastic overview of the computing subject. If you buy one book, buy Carol's. If you want a specific subject book for a child, buy one of Mike's. If you want something for the Raspberry Pi owning child, look at "Adventures in Minecraft", which covers Python, or "Adventures in Raspberry Pi", which covers everything in a Raspberry Pi wayAll books listed are great and good value, so buy them all and have Christmas and Birthday's covered.

An easy, concise and 'fun' way to learn Python...
Very easy to read and thus learn from, with clear, colour illustrations to help you understand. It takes it nice and steady without dropping you in the deep end as some books are prone to do. There are useful side tips, reminders and warnings to key points and the level of explanation is detailed enough with out going into heavy territory.Overall a great book for those learn Python whether they are a complete beginner to programming or switching from another language.

The Mike McGrath books do exactly as wanted. They teach the fundamentals of the programming language along with how they interact without going overloading the reader with too much detail. If you're an absolute beginer in a language, or in programming in general, this is the book for you.

Book for beginners to Python rather than beginners to programming.
This has some excellent activities in it but i still think the author needs to use less jargon as this book would still be difficult for some non-programmers to understand. It is a a very good book for people with knowledge of the basics of a computer language to learn the specifics of Python.
