🔧 Elevate Your Edge with Precision!
The GlobalRail Knife Sharpening Guide comes in a convenient pack of two, featuring a small guide for blades up to 6 inches and a large guide for blades over 6 inches. Perfectly designed for use with whetstones, these guides ensure your knives are always sharp and ready for action.

Not the sharpest tool in the box
An interesting concept, these guides are essentially "spacers" that you put on the top of the knife to hold the edge being sharpened at the "correct" angle to the whetstone. You then sharpen keeping the guide in contact with the stone to maintain the angle. While they're easy enough to fit, they're less easy to use particularly on a long blade although this may depend on the width of your whetstone. I found that they wore down very quickly as they remain in contact with the whetstone during sharpening - unless my technique is wrong! They could really do with a decent bit of advice/instruction.In use, while I ended up with sharp blades, the "edge" wasn't at the angle I'd expected and it didn't stay sharp for very long. Of course, this could be down to my technique, but if you're buying these thinking that they will give you effortless guidance on the sharpening of your expensive knives, I'd suggest you think again. I now stick to my tried and tested sharpening steel.

Be careful using
Used them and yes you get the correct angle if you position correctly..however you really need to thoutherly rinse them after use..I thought I had done that by rinsing under tap and leaving in bowl of water to ensure any whetstone excess was washed away but second time I used them they scratched my new global ni 20cm knife..I would recommend using tape over knife before using the guides to prevent this happening..after a few times using whetstone I am now doing it by hand and getting the same sharpness and angle...

Requires training and patience.
The Sharpening Guide is complicated to use and requires some training and patience. Moreover, which is not because of the guide set, if your knives do not have the angle corresponding to the angle of the guide set, it takes a while to get the right angle on the knifes.

Handy little item
Good little guides for sharpening better quality kitchen knives.Don't buy Global knives though - despite the hype, newer ones aren't very hard and don't keep a good edge.Get some premium Japanese knives - eg Hattori (or if on a budget, I.O.Shen are great value for the outlay)

Scratch, Scratch, Scratch!
The guides are great if you're not very familiar with whetstones and the perfect tool for learning how to keep the right angle when sharpening. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because it's poor slide on and off application ruins the top edge (the spin) of your knives. If you must get one of these I recommend applying a bit of masking tape across the entire length of the spin before putting these things on. I'm just glad I read some of the reviews on here before using them on my precious Globals *Shudders*

great idea
these do what there supposed to making it a doddle to sharpen your knives,i always found it hard to keep the knife at the same angle on a whetstone but this makes it foolproof.also they don't seem to be wearing down with use so should last a long time, great idea.Steve

Four Stars
Helps keeping the correct angle but takes a bit of getting used to when you turn The knife over

Takes the worry out of sharpening!
Fantastic product - as a first time knife-sharpener, worried about wrecking some very expensive knives, these take the worry out of the process as you really can't go wrong! Great result and no scratches on the knives - very happy with the purchase.
