The Best of RAW and Smackdown 2015
This DVD contains the best matches and moments from Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown on three discs. It's hosted by Byron Saxton but most of the time he just leaves the matches/moments to speak for themselves. There's also a highlight package for each month.Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt - The compilation kicks off with this Ambulance match from RAW. It was a good brawl, in and around the ring. they used a few weapons, mainly from the ambulance. The action was entertaining, it's hard to build drama in an ambulance match but they made up for that with some fun moments. It lasted a good amount of time and built to a good finish. It was probably better overall than their T.L.C. Main event which felt dragged out with a bad finish. A good way to start the DVD.Daniel Bryan vs. Kane - This comes from Smackdown. It was another good match for the most part. Bryan always brings out the best in Kane, he's great at building sympathy and making his comebacks. There was some good psychology as Kane went after Bryan's previously injured neck. It looked like it was going to be a good match but the finish kind of spoilt it as we didn't get a decisive or satisfying conclusion. Overall I was happy watching it but with that finish it left the match underwhelming.Ryback vs. Rusev - Also from Smackdown, this was Ryback's chance to qualify for the Royal Rumble. This was a better match than I expected it to be considering it involved Ryback. It lasted a good amount of time but didn't get boring, There were some good near-falls and the action was solid. It unfortunately had another poor finish although not as bad as the previous one. It didn't really hurt the action too much this time around and worked with what they were doing. I enjoyed this more than I ever expected too. It was pretty good.Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins - From RAW, the winner of this match would face Roman Reigns at Fastlane for a WWE Championship match at Wrestlemania. It was a really good match as you might expect. The action was great as they wrestled back and forth with plenty of reversals. There were some good near-falls and they built some good drama around Bryan's signature submission hold as well as with Seth targeting Bryan's previously injured neck. there was some interference but thankfully it never hurt the match at all. They went for a good amount of time and built to a clean and satisfying finish. Following the match we see Sting saving Randy Orton from the Authority.Dean Ambrose vs. Stardust vs. R-Truth vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Luke Harper vs. Dolph Ziggler - This was a Gauntlet match from Smackdown, featuring the wrestlers competing in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match at Wrestlemania. Overall it was an entertaining match with some good action. Some of the matches did end a lot quicker than they would have if they weren't part of a longer match but the shorter ones weren't going to be anything particularly exciting anyway. Harper and Ambrose had a good match with Harper working over Ambrose's shoulder. Bryan and Harper was another very good back and forth match and Ziggler vs. Bryan had the best match of the gauntlet with a very athletic, fast paced back and forth match. Overall a really fun, entertaining match.Nikki Bella vs. Paige - This was a WWE "Divas" Championship match from RAW. It was a good back and forth match that lasted a good amount of time, especially for the women on TV. It built well and had some really good near-falls as the match went on. It had a good finish that added to the storyline going in to Wrestlemania and was an overall enjoyable match. After the match we see AJ Lee and Paige calling out the Bella Twins from Smackdown.Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar - This was meant to be a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match on RAW. It didn't happen as Rollins escaped but it was still a memorable moment. Brock looked like a monster, dominating and then destroying the ringside area. Best of all he F5'd Michael Cole, which was great. It would have been fun to see a proper match between the two men but I enjoyed the moment anyway.Neville vs. Curtis Axel - This RAW match has alternate commentary by Neville. It was Neville's TV debut, the night after Wrestlemania. It was a short and straight-forward squash match that just briefly showed off what Neville could do. The commentary was better than the bonus commentaries from the previous years DVD in that it wasn't an obvious 'in character' interview. He talked about things that worked both ways like his wrestling style and what it was like to make his debut.John Cena and Daniel Bryan vs. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd - This match, from Smackdown, saw the United States(Cena) and Intercontinental(Bryan) Champions taking on the WWE Tag Team Champions(Kidd and Cesaro). It was a very good, fun match. Cena and Bryan were great individually but the tag champions worked really well as a team. All the action was good but the action really picked up towards the end and it led to a strong and decisive finish. I'd have loved to have seen it go longer but what we did get was very good.Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose - Disc two of this DVD starts with this match from RAW. If Dean Ambrose won he would be put into the main event of Payback. As always, these two put on a really good, competitive and entertaining match. The action was great with plenty of reversals and near-falls as the match went on. It kept up a fast pace throughout and had a good amount of time to work with. It built to a good, exciting finish and was another great match in their brilliant rivalry. It was the best match so far on this DVD, it was a lot of fun.John Cena vs. Sami Zayn - This was also from RAW and was one of John Cena's United States Championship open challenges. Bret Hart came out first and introduced Zayn, who unfortunately injured himself during his entrance. The injury did cause a brief pause to the action but Sami managed to fight through the pain and still make this a great match. The action is entertaining with plenty of reversals and some good near-falls. It gets a good amount of time and a clean finish. I would love to see a rematch with Sami healthy. Following this match we see Kevin Owens making his fantastic RAW debut, answering and then declining the open challenge.Roman Reigns, Neville and Randy Orton vs. Sheamus, Kane and Kofi Kingston - This six-person tag match comes from Smackdown and featured the participants of the Money in the Bank Ladder match. It was a good, back and forth tag match. The action was entertaining from start to finish and it lasted a good amount of time. It wasn't a particularly memorable match but it was definitely enjoyable. The finish sucked but didn't really hurt the match as nothing was really on the line. A proper finish would have been nice but it wasn't hurt by it's finish as much as some matches. Also Xavier Woods shouting his advice of 'do better' to Sheamus was brilliant.John Cena vs. Cesaro - This was another of Cena's United States Championship open challenges from RAW. It has alternate commentary by Cesaro but I didn't listen to it as I knew this would be a great match and didn't want to ruin it by focusing on commentary. The match was a great one; The action was fast paced and competitive with plenty of amazing reversals to keep things exciting. There were some really good near-falls too as the match went on along with some good drama with Cesaro's crossface attempts. They had plenty of time and built to a great, decisive finish. The best match of the DVD and easily could have main-evented a pay-per-view, it was so good.Paige vs. Sasha Banks - Before this RAW match we see the segment where the "Divas revolution" begins, it would have been a good segment if Stephanie McMahon didn't try and make it about her, it could have happened more organically. Sasha Banks does alternate commentary for the match but again I didn't listen to it as I was expecting a great match. It was another great back and forth match, The action was entertaining from start to finish, there were plenty of nice reversals, near-falls and a good, clean and decisive finish. It was a sign that things were about to get good in the women's division.Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Cesaro vs. Sheamus, Kevin Owens, Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper - Before this match from Smackdown we see a RAW segment called Brock Lesnar's homecoming, featuring The Undertaker. Unfortunately it wasn't their great pull-apart brawl they had around this time. Anyway, this match was another good one. Like the previous six-person tag, none of the action was particularly memorable or anything but that didn't really matter. It was a fun, entertaining and competitive main event full of enjoyable action. It built to a good, clean finish after a good amount of time. The New Day vs. The Lucha Dragons - Disc three opens with this RAW match. It's fine but nothing special. It's just a basic four minute match with a clean finish. It's not here for the match though really as the aftermath marked the return of the Dudley Boys after ten years away from WWE. So the match wasn't worth it but the moment was pretty memorable.Seth Rollins and Big Show vs. Sting and John Cena - Before this RAW match we see Seth unveiling his statue he earned at Summerslam and it leading to the return of Sting. This next bout was originally a singles match between Sting and Big Show but due to interference was turned into this. We see both matches but the first is over pretty quickly and is fairly uneventful. I'd say the match(es) are probably here more to show Sting's only RAW matches more than match quality. That's not to say the matches are bad or anything. The first is short and fine and the second is an enjoyable tag match with some good action. The in-ring quality certainly isn't one of the best matches of the year but it's easy to watch and enjoy. Especially for a Sting fan.Kevin Owens vs. Ryback - This was for the Intercontinental Championship and comes from Smackdown. It was a pretty good match considering Ryback was involved. Owens managed to bring him to a pretty strong match. It lasted about the right amount of time and had some good reversals and a few near-falls. It didn't have a decisive finish which was a shame and hurt the match a little bit. I think they had a better match on pay-per-view around this time but this one was still enjoyable to watch. Following this was see Tyler Breeze's WWE debut on Miz TV. It's not a very good segment.Roman Reigns vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Kevin Owens - This RAW Fatal Four-Way match was to find the number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It was every man's second match of the night. It was a very good, fun match. The action was chaotic and fast paced with everyone getting a chance to do their thing. There were some good near-falls as the match went on and it built to a really good, strong finish. All the action was fun to watch and it was a really good, exciting main event.Cesaro vs. Sheamus - This was a first round match in a tournament to find the next WWE World Heavyweight Championship after Seth Rollins had to give it up due to injury. It was a very good, back and forth match. These two have had loads of matches together and they always have great chemistry. The action was really good, with plenty of reversals, including Cesaro reversing a Brogue Kick into a Sharpshooter. There were some good near-falls and they built to a a good, clean finish. The tournament was off to a great start.Ryback vs. Kalisto - This was another first round match-up, this time from Smackdown. It was a good back and forth match. Ryback was much stronger so dominated a lot of the action but it wasn't as one sided as you might think. Kalisto managed to stay in the fight thanks to some well timed reversals. It was a really good power and strength vs. speed and skill match-up and much better than I'd expect from either man usually. It lasted a good amount of time for the story they were telling and had a good, strong finish.Charlotte vs. Paige - This RAW match was for the "Divas" Championship. It was a good, competitive match. It really felt like they hated each other as there was slightly more aggression on everything they did. There were some good reversals and they built drama around their submission holds. It got a good amount of time but unfortunately it didn't lead to a clean or decisive finish. They carried on brawling after the match was over which made up for it a little bit but it still would have been better with a proper finish. Overall it was a good, entertaining fight.Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and The Usos vs. The New Day and League of Nations - This is the final match on the DVD and comes from RAW. It's a handicap match, four on seven. It was another enjoyable match. The tag aspect made sure it didn't feel to stupid that the four were able to keep up with the seven which was good and they were given plenty of time to put on an entertaining match. Both teams worked together well and kept the match moving at a good pace as it built towards a good, clean finish. While not that important it was a fun match to close the DVD with. This was another really good match compilation. These RAW and Smackdown DVDs always deliver on quality and this one is no different. The DVD favours matches over moments which I think was a good choice, with loads of really strong, entertaining matches. There are matches that maybe should have been included but there's too many good matches in a year of television to fit everything on. There were no bad matches, a few weren't particularly special but the rest were all very high quality. A great set worth picking up.
