A well deserved 5* for Knockabout publishers' collected Wonder Wart-hog volume by Gilbert (Furry Freak Brothers, Fat Freddy's Cat) Shelton, their second since the tabloid sized WW reprint from the late 1980s, I believe.Having been a fan of the Hog of Steel's adventures for over a quarter of a century (and owning only a mere handful of his comics), this book is pretty much all of the WW ever published and ever need; it's all here from his earliest appearances dating back to 1961 and beyond (I hope!)Predating the likes of Pat Mills & Kevin O'Neill's viciously satirical superhero send up Marshal Law by decades, creator/writer and artist Gilbert Shelton (with some help from others) sets his porcine hero up for various hi-jinks and mis-adventures with an all too familiar backdrop of political and economic unrest that still seems topical after the passing of four decades - dodgy elections, inflation, recession, oil crises and so on! All keenly observed while our 8" 11 3/4' tall hero and hapless alter ego Philbert Desanex do battle against the likes of the Masked Meanie, the Comet Insurance Man, Granny ladies, Paranoid Punk-Pig, Piltdown Pig and many, many more including Gloptron Inc.'s Sixty-Sextillion-Smacker Bionic Bludgeon (and its marsupial pilot)!!I'm not going to drone on because this stuff is timeless and my Hog of Steel sketch by Shelton himself is one of my most treasured possessions so, if you're not a big fan of his other stuff like the dope fueled shenanigans of The Furry Freak Brothers then you'll really dig the Hog of Steel!Thank you, Knockabout!Edit: With creator Gilbert Shelton's permission, new adventures of the Hog of Steel continue in the pages of Ganjaman Presents by Glasgow's very own Jim Stuart. nice print and a good size, paperback seems fitting as its a comic.

There's not much to say - Gilbert Shelton = legend

This brought back quite a few fond memories. A great book & highly enjoyable reading experience.

Großmeister Gilbert Sheldon 's Persiflage der Superman u.ä. US-Comic. Entstanden ab 1962 . Seiner Zeit ganz weit voraus und immer noch zeitlos und absolut schrill und lustig.

This is a beautiful compendium of Shelton's work on Wonder Wart-Hog, his major comix character before the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. If you like the sarcasm of Colbert, you'll love Shelton's humor here as his right-wing Wart-Hog superhero blunders his way through adventure after adventure. The Hog's aler-ego, Philbert Desenex, is also a wonderful creation, the perfect cubical worker. This funny, funny stuff in a lavishly produced paperback. Get it!

Il volume è una corposa selezione di avventure di questo supereroe "atipico" molto underground.La brossura è buona, cosi come la carta. Lo stile del disegno di Shelton è davvero ottimo, ricco di dettagli, ben fatto e godibilissimo. Le avventure sono molto divertenti e lo stile si vede! Assolutamente consigliato per chiunque voglia farsi due risate! Il volume è in inglese, ma nulla di complesso davvero.
