Gleaming The Cube [DVD]

Forget it.
This looked rubbish back in the day, and 30 odd years later, it actually is rubbish essentially. I guess I was curious to see Christian Slater how he was just starting out as a skateboard punk from California. Credit where it's due, he does have some impressive moves with that skateboard, at the cube skate park, where he hangs out with his punk friends. But yeah, the story about him cleaning his punk act up, to 'investigate' his adopted Vietnamese brother's death, is wholly unconvincing.Viewing matters are made worse by the fact this streaming transfer is not up to Amazons usual high standards, in terms of the picture quality. It's a bad DVD transfer essentially, with poor resolution on my 5in projector screen. Actually, for a rotten, and best forgotten movie like this, it's not worth the effort, but...Some gratuitous violence and illicit sex might have carried the mundane story a little better, and not just the cool skateboarding. But it's really just a bad episode of TJ Hooker, carried over 100 (count 'em) interminable minutes. If you want to know about early Christian Slater, do check out 'Heathers' made around same period, which is infinitely more watchable than this mush.

Excellent B movie
Great film with some a terrific scene of skateboarders out running motorcycles on a steep canyon hill, which is ralistic as I used to own a GPz550, which is one of the bikes in that chase.

Gleaming the cube dvd
Great film for nostalgia, would have been better in 16:9 not 4:3 , sound could also have been improved and picture quality cleaned up. Blu ray release hopefully would address all of these issues.

An 80's gem
Get your Converse Chuck Taylors on and wipe the dust off your skateboard because after you've watched Christian Slater in action all you'll want to do is find an empty swimming pool and grind your board. Brian Kelly (Slater) sets out to find the killer of his adopted brother after uncovering some sinister goings-on at the factory owned by the father of his late brothers' girlfriend. Eager to uncover the truth, there are no lengths he won't go to seek justice. A great story with some amazing skateboarding, look out for the legendary Tony Hawks.

Cool skate flick
Classic skate film. Well worth a watch if you are a skater or skateboard fan. Tony Hawk delivering Pizzas?

Skateboarding in the 80's for every decade since!
A film of its time and an interesting storyline, though sometimes you can tell it is not Christian Slater doing the skateboard stunts, i still think that the boarders of today would still like some of the action. One of my 'teenage' film favourites!
