I recommend the book, but I hope you have better luck than me with the delivery! ### ⭐⭐ Be aware of the edition number! *by K***R on 4 June 2024* I just finished watching the great online MIT lectures - those were amazing and it became clear why everyone's such a fan of Strang! But I'm rating *this* specific 6th, latest, edition of *the book*, not the lectures. I found it quite confusing - the very good thing about it was that it led me to the open MIT website, so great, got quickly hooked on the lectures, but just judging it as a book - it might not be where you want to start. I've been comparing it with the 4th edition, and that earlier edition, which is the one the online course materials most directly and consistently refer to (e.g., the readings per lecture are given for 4th and 5th edition, but the assignments only from the 4th edition). The 4th edition was quite different - it took more time to develop ideas, didn't introduce so much so quickly. The content is similar but I think it could be more confusing in this edition. So I think the recommendation I'd give, with my current understanding, is: Watch the online lectures first and foremost, with the 4th edition alongside for reading and exercises.
