Challenger [DVD] [1990]

Disaster drama. The film follows the intriguing human drama behind the tragic space mission. Although good drama, the explosion at the end is cut a bit short and could have been portrayed better with more of a memorial to those lost. The picture is a bit jumpy in places but is not a problem. The plot follows the story of the tragic 'Challenger' that exploded upon initial take off.

Ever since learning about the Challenger disaster, I've been both fascinated and saddened from childhood about this truly shocking and untimely tragedy. In doing so I have read countless books and watched several documentaries on what happened.Therefore when I first saw this movie a few years ago, I originally had my doubts thinking it was just something done for the sake of a TV movie but to my surprise, this actually went into great detail of the ill-fated chain reaction of technical events that would ultimately culminate in one of the most catastrophic conclusions that still haunts much of the world today and it truly depicts the personal lives of each of the crew members and their relationships with their families, friends and colleagues as well as America's support and admiration of their accomplishments prior to this.I also believe that this film is approachable to anyone (regardless of whether they are interested in space exploration or not) who might want to learn about this tragedy and gain some insight into how this tragedy unfolded as well as who the crew members were and how they would come to be remembered even years after this ill-fated event took place.

I watched this TV movie many years ago an fell in love with it. I've just got the DVD and it was a good thing doing so cause quality is excellent. Too bad it doesn't have any "making of" documentaries or some other additional content.

I should have looked this up on IMDB first - I assumed tis was a technical tale of the lead up to the launch, but while some detail was there it's mainly about the people and their families. My own fault.

I remembered the headlines and the pictures of that catastrophy back in 1986. When I found this DVD by accident I decided to buy it and I didn't regret.

Although tragic end but great film its definatly worth a watch
