The 2017 circulating two pound coin of the Isle of Man feature the Tower of Refuge. The Tower of Refuge was built on a reef in the bay of Douglas by order of Sir William Hillary (RNLI founder) in 1832. Sir William Hillary ordered the Tower be built as a refuge for survivers following a number of shiprecks on the partially submergerd reef. The two pound coin has been strick in Cupro-nickel and Nickel-brass as a Bi-metal coin. The obverse carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, this effigy being reserved for the Crown dependencies and Commonwealth countries.
