This scraper works fine on the top of the grill grate. As for developing grooves, which is why I bought it, I've been using it for about 6 weeks, maybe 3 times a week and scraping a grill grate that's between 400°F and 450°F/ So far it's developed grooves that are about 1/4" deep, hardly enough to clean the sides of the rods that make up the grill grate. However, I'll keep using it just to see how long it takes to make grooves that are deep enough.

My wife read an article about metal wire brushes where wires come out of the handle and can accidentally work into your food, then into your mouth/stomach. Not pleasant if that happens. This is a good alternative. It's tough to get between the grates with this and I don't feel it cleans as well as the wire ones... but it's not wire, so that's good.

we use it and it works, but i wish the grooves would wear into it more quickly. we have had it for about a year and use it often, and there are only slight grooves in it, so we have to use the corners of it to get between the grate bars.

I wanted to find a good alternative for my wire brush cleaner because I don't want to end up in the hospital for accidentally swallowing one of those little wire bristles. This was the most highly rated non-wire brush bbq cleaner so I gave it a shot.As seen in the pictures, it has a flat bottom so it does not clean in between the grates. It only cleans the very top, so you still have stuff all over on the sides of the grates. The seller claimed that it's "very easy" for grooves to form, which enables cleaning between the grates, but I've barbecued 15+ times and there aren't even any signs of grooves forming.

Excellent! Works great and I do not need to worry about harming the ceramic grates on our Weber Grill! I would highly recommend this especially if you were concerned about you and your family‘s health, as there are no bristles that can possibly get lodged into food or into your grill! Nice work Amazon at getting this great distributor and product!

It scrapes the surface of the grates just ok. I have a Weber gas grill with cast iron grates that are wide in width and does not work well with this scraper. It is not shaping at the bottom to line up with the grates. It is better suited for the small round grates that come with the charcoal type grills.

I bought this scraper because I saw a similar one through Pampered Chef. I didn’t feel like ordering through them so Amazon it is! It does what it’s supposed to- clean the grill effortlessly and without wires coming loose from a brush.

This was bought after reading scary stories about wire brush bristles getting lodged in lungs/food/etc. We haven't had any issues using it and feel a lot safer and comfortable about our choice to discontinue using wire brushes.
