Big box of rebar chairs!
In the past contractors would show up with a truckload of bricks to put the rebar on. While the bricks are strong the rebar will easily slip off. I tried out another brand of rebar chairs which holds the rebar in both directions , they worked well but only came in boxes of 50 and had long shipping times, so it was hard to get a bunch of them quickly. These chairs come in a huge box of 800 (I have not counted them) and shipped quickly. They look plenty heavy duty to hold up when you step on the rebar. The only downside is that they only hold the rebar in one direction instead of two, so they're somewhat more prone to tipping over sideways, especially in softer soil.

They fall over when pumping concrete
If you are going to pump your your pour don't use these. The jerky motion of the pump hose causes the chairs to fall over. They are sturdy and easy to install but most of the 800 chairs fell over as we started to pump the concrete. I have never had this problem with concrete dobies, maybe you can tie them in place?

Hold your rebar in the middle of the concrete while pouring
My husband feels that the1 1/2" are necessary to hold the rebar in correct position in a 4" thick slab to optimize strength and longevity.
