When the buoy is inflated from 5-6m (15-18ft) and released, the weight of the brass snap hook (on the WDS) and the weight of the stainless steel ring on the buoy will always keep the open end of the buoy far enough underwater to ensure that air does not spill from the unit and deflate. On the surface, once the WDS has been secured with the Bungy, you can let go of the whole unit without worrying about the unit deflating; since there is enough weight on the whole WDS to ensure that the opening of the buoy is always submerged even in a swell. Therefore there is no need for an OPV (Over Pressure Valve). By eliminating the need for and OPV the unit is much more compact and easier stow as well as being able to fully deflate the unit in a matter of seconds for stowage. Note: The Surface Marker WDS Buoy was designed for recreational divers doing safety stops Both yellow & orange are the most visible colours on the surface. In varying light conditions one colour will stand out more than the other ensuring that you are always visible. The orange is more visible in bright sunlight while the yellow stands out more as the light fades or rainy days. The stainless steel ring on the WDS is quite large & highly polished, and will easily slip off your thumb without any problems in case the unit gets snagged, all you have to do is open your thumb (thumbs up and its away). You are not tying yourself to anything you are simply slipping a over sized stainless steel ring (internal diameter 3cm or 1.18") over your thumb which is only holding the unit while it deploys, in the same manner as you would hold a small handle with your thumb - open you thumb release the handle. Should you deploy the unit deeper than the allowed depth for the WDS (5.5m / 18ft) you will feel a gentle upwards tug on the lanyard allowing you to release it. The webbing absorbs most of the shock due to its width, length and inherent elasticity.
