I only use them to mic up acoustic drums where their performance easily matches my shure sm57. As far as acoustic guitar is concerned - never tried but hey they see cheapest enough to try out anyway. Also used for backing vocals when my sm58 was informed repair

Q: Honestly people - is it as good as an SM57??

It's LOUDER .... does that mean better? No. To my ears it's a little more bright, but not a good bright, it's what I can only describe as an electrical fizzy sound (like a telephone mic), rather than a transparent sound, which the SM57 does better. However, depending on your application, this may fit, or even benefit your sound. For example, electric guitar will have a bit more rasp, or the bottom of a snare will have a bit more bite, but it's not going to pick up the subtle nuance of the top side of a lovely piccolo snare, or capture a Fender Bassman as clear as it can....I would definitely keep it away from vocals, it just sounds cheap there. It weighs half the SM57, if you open it up you'll find the lower barrel hasn't been expoxy'd so theres going to be more rattle on mic, and the wires going from the capsule to the XLR connectors could be ball hairs, which explains the real thin telephone mouthpiece type sound to it.... I don't think it will survive being opened too many times, those wires are going to snap. The head doesn't spin around like a normal SM57, that's good, as that causes a lot of noise with the normal SM57. No, not as good, not even really close, but a nice mic to have, I'm going to buy a few more of these they'll do as tom mics, even if they will eventually be just acting as triggers, it's got a slightly more usable sound than something like a Yoga D606 (which I would never put on a guitar amp).
