An easy read that leaves me smiling
I've found this book very entertaining. I have only finished the first story and recently started the second, which is a sequel of the first. I have found the portrayal of Americans by Verne very amusing. An easy read that leaves me smiling.

A fantastic journey
As I now write this, it is a fact that we have actually journeyed to the moon and it's also a fact that since 1972 we've chosen not to return there. For these reasons, the idea of going to the moon has different emotional connotations than it did prior to 1969.Perhaps what I like best about this two volume in one Verne work (From Earth to the Moon AND Round the Moon) is the way in which it takes us back to that time before we actually went there and re kindles the spirit of just how awesome the concept of moon travel was.SPOILER ALERT: Since there's no way of discussing these stories without detailing them, new readers may want to avoid this paragraph through FINAL THOUGHTS. Earth to the Moon was written in 1865. In it, Verne outlines the story of how America flush from the battlefield lessons of the civil war, decided to create a special gun which could shoot a projectile all the way to the moon. In preparing this projectile alterations are made so that individuals can actually ride it and in so doing actually venture out in space and to the moon. Round the Moon was written in 1870 and details the story of their voyage. Along the way Verne gives his answer to whether there's life on the moon...a question that was then still hotly debated.FINAL THOUGHTS: Like I said before I think what I like most about this two volume work is the sense of proper wonder and hope it imparts. Verne's moon explorers had all the ambition and awe that one should have in connection with such a project. In this way, Verne manages not only to take us to the moon but back to a time when great men could do such great things.

Review of From the Earth to the Moon- Tommy
"From the Earth to the Moon" by Jules Verne was an excellent book. It had many very funny parts, and if you can get past the old language, there were a lot of interesting ideas and actions in the book. In "From the Earth to the Moon," the leader of the Gun Club, Barbicane, had a wonderful idea of sending a cannon ball to the moon. Everything gets crazy though, when adventurous Michael Arden volenteers to ride in the cannon ball to the moon. "From the Earth to the Moon" is a well-written book by the popular author, Jules Verne, and I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Phantastisch

I think there are better translations of this book. The English used here is somehow strange.
