Super quiet. Install in 2 parts.
Today I installed this fan in a bathroom that didn't have an exhaust fan. The fan is extremely quiet and appears to be well made. I feel confident that it will last a long time.As others have stated, the fan as it is shipped is too large to fit through the size hole that the directions specify. That's because the plate that holds the exhaust port and junction box needs to be removed prior to installation. It's as simple as unplugging the power pigtail, removing 2 screws and lifting the plate off of the unit. Cut the 9.5" hole in the ceiling, insert the fan and secure it to whatever framing you have in the attic. Then, in the attic, wire up the junction box and and reinstall on the unit. Connect your duct while you're up there. Back down in the bathroom you still need to reinstall the 2 screws you removed earlier to finish securing the junction box/exhaust plate and reconnect the pigtail. The fan is very quiet so you might consider installing a timing switch so that you don't accidentally leave it running.

Just what I needed!
Had a very loud bathroom fan that this replaced. Had to manipulate ceiling hole to fit as the OEM on the house was 45 years old! Easy to do, however. The noise level is unbelievably quiet! Really, really quite! But it works well!

Solid Construction - Bad Design
I have replaced several bathroom fans in different houses over the years. One thing that they had in common was that they were made of flimsy tin. When I pulled the unit from the box, I was very impressed - the metal was a much heavier gauge and the construction was more solid than I have seen. Prior to installation, I spun the unit up and it was quieter than any bathroom fan that I have had. This was the end of my pleasant experiences with this product. The form factor of the unit would receive a failing grade for any student that submitted it. The unit is flanged on all four sides, meaning that you must insert the 9"x9" unit into the spec'd 9.4"x9.4" hole. The catch is that the vent hose adapter and AC housing welded to one side bring the length to 12". This coupled with the 8" depth makes it impossible to fit through a 9.4x9.4 hole. I had to enlarge the hole to 9.4x11+ inches. The provided cover is 11x11 and I had to do some minor sheetrock repairs. Also, I did not use the supplied mounting brackets. I used 2 1x4s in the attic with the edges lined up with the 11.125" sides, secured with 1 drywall screw. I then used screws through the flanges, sheetrock, and 1x4 to secure the unit.

Difficult installation, not as quiet as I hoped
This was a huge upgrade from the original laundry room fan we had in the ceiling, but I had to modify it to fit in the existing spot.I was surprised at the noise - it is definitely audible, but far quieter than what we had and your standard bathroom fan. I'd thought that ".3 sone" would have been nearly-silent, like the 120mm case fans in my computer, but that is not the case.Because the exhaust port and metal wiring box stick out of one side, I had to cut a hole in the ceiling larger than this fan is so that I could get it to tilt up in to the ceiling and then mount it. That meant doing some drywall patch work (which actually turned out to be pretty easy and looks great with barely any work). Then, the second problem I ran in to was that the metal wiring box does not have enough clearance off the mounting flange for 2 layers of half inch drywall, which is what my ceiling is. See pictures. Finally, I had to pry off one of the mount channels on the side - I was mounting the flange through 2 layers of half inch drywall to a 2x2 that was in the ceiling, and the mounting channel was causing the fan to butt out and not be seated flush with the wall. Hopefully the pictures show you what I'm talking about. All in all, happy with the quality of the product, it was just a huge pain in the ass to put in myself. If you're going to buy and you're not a contractor, have a professional do it.

Motor Noise
This was installed in a 1/2 bath that does not get much use. About two months after installation the motor starting a slight buzz when you turn the switch on and off the and an annoying hum as it runs. When I first installed it, the motor seems a bit week and I was pretty sure the actual CFM was not accurate to what they state. I was looking for a super quiet fan and it was at first, but now it makes noise. Which is probably due to cheap motor components. I would not recommend this to anyone. I am having a hard time tracking down any warranty information since it has gone bad after the return window.

Decent and quiet fan with a nice price
With respect to my old fan, it used to take about more than 30 mins to dry the bathroom out and the noise was driving me crazy. Referring to this new fan, all things work out fast and sound. From all what I can tell, you should try it and it won't let you down.

Very nice fan - and quiet.
If you are installing in an existing ceiling plan on dropping in the housing from the attic. You'll never get it in from the room. Otherwise you shouldn't have any problems if you are equipped with reasonable experience and tools.
