Agrobrite, Black Hydrofarm FLF27D Desktop Plant Light with 27-Watt CFL Bulb

Reportedly, the on/off switch is the first thing to go, however, if, like me, you intend to use it in an office, just get a timer. Perfect for a mid sized plant, six inch pot, 15 inches high. Plant is getting plenty of light and taking off like a rocket. (Update) The plant, (nepenthes), aka "Cleopatra Jones" has turned out to be a real fire-cracker! Totally thrived under this lamp. After about five years of non-stop use with a timer, the lamp finally burned out. I replaced it with a HyGarden Grow Light, but she just became chlorotic and threw out a LOT of flowers, which isn't a good sign. Maybe Cleopatra Jones is nearing the end of a great life, maybe she wasn't getting the light intensity, who's to say? But the AgroBrite was definitely a great purchase for me. So great, I replaced the HyGarden with another AgroBrite.

I love this lamp. Seriously. I cannot express how satisfied I am with this purchase. I had researched grow lamps for months before settling on this one. It doesn’t have any goofy colors - but it IS very bright when the rest of the lights are off. The tray was larger than I had anticipated, which was a welcome surprise as I had a few plants that needed some TLC. I have had this lamp for over a month now, and I am happy to report that my African violets foliage have deepened in color, have grown more leaves and are BLOOMING. I went a whole year without blooms until I started using this lamp. I don’t give them more than a few hours each day (4, maybe 5? And a full 12 on weekends) and I am amazed with the results. My pilea peperomioides is growing new leaves, my violets have buds and are deep green (the one in the white pot has sprouted new white/purple variegated leaves) ... I would highly recommend this lamp. Just make sure you know the dimensions of the height of the lamp as tall plants won’t fit under it. Fortunately I only needed it for small ones. But it’s great! I want to buy more for my other plants.

Just what I needed for my beautiful jade. The goose neck is super pliable and moveable in all directions (moves sideways, up and down, twists, etc.) This lamp is pretty substantial in size, and I should be able to take care of a few surrounding plants with the copious spillover light Some of the reviews say that it is hot. I do not find it to be hot. The bulbs themselves get a bit warm, but since the lamp itself is made of heavy (high-quality) plastic, and not heat-conducting metal, the lamp itself stays cool to the touch. The concave platform is MUCH larger than I expected. If you can be in love with a grow-light, this would be the one. The cord is just long enough - not too long. Please be advised that the plug is a 2-prong plug and not 3. I plan to put mine on a timer which is grounded.

This Plant Grow Light is fairly unique in that it is compact, and has a built in base for you to place a small plant on it for full exposure to the light. I have my light attached to an automatic timer because I have found that these lamps fail with alarming regularity if you utilize the "ON/OFF" switch on the lamp itself. By using a timer, you completely avoid this issue and can guarantee years of trouble-free use. I have mine on a stand so that it is also benefiting other plants with its light and my miniature Palm and Pulmaria seem to love it. I had a Jasmine Plant that was failing elsewhere, but one I put it under the light for a few days, new growth can be seen sprouting. Be warned, though. The light gives off a significant amount of heat and can damage foliage if the plant grows too tall or gets too close to the bulbs. This is the only negative that I have found. UPDATE: September 12, 2018 - The lamp is still going strong. No failures! Here is the secret! Put the lamp on a TIMER! DO NOT USE THE ON/OFF SWITCH TO CONTROL THE LIGHT! Using the switch will cause the light to fail eventually much, much sooner as it is poorly designed. The timer method bypasses the switch and I’ve had no issues at all!

This plant light is great. In height, it's about up to my knees. I'm a slightly short woman. It's about twice as wide as my foot at is base. It has a special bulb in it. I run it only during the day, during the workweek. It has a nice, bright bulb. The lamp itself just looks like a desk lamp. The brightness from the lamp light seems to be helping my desk plant flourish. It's a large plant, about 18 inches tall, and it's been ailing since I brought it inside in the fall. There are not florescent lights in my office, so I figured it needed light.

My old plant light died a few days ago. I figured it was the light bulb, ordered a replacement and found out, no, it was the light. So I ordered this Hydrofarm FLF27D Desktop plant light and when it arrived today I plugged it in. Great! My plants will not die now! Just ten minutes ago I found it dark. So I replaced the light bulb that came with it with the new light I had ordered. Nothing. In fact both of the light bulbs look totally new and undamaged. No rattle when I shake them and no signs of burnt areas. I plugged the new plant light into another outlet just to check (even though the timer in the outlet I use was still ticking away, so it is getting power). Nothing. Less than 24 hours and it is dead. My other plant light lasted more than half a year. And this one - less than a day. Less than 12 hours, as I got it this afternoon and it is now around midnight. I guess I better order another plant light - but not from this folks.

I got this for a bonsai tree that I started growing from seed. I guess if I would have read a little further into the bonsai book I would have known that I wouldn't really need this light for at least another year... Or at all. Nonetheless, here is my review. It's bright, it's compact, it likely fits on a desk but as I do not have a desk to test this hypothesis on, it is pure conjecture at this point. The name of the lamp having the word "desktop" in it does lend some validity to my previous assertion I feel. However, it fits on my floor nicely. By nicely I just mean that it sits there like a lamp "do". I would not suggest looking directly into the lamp as you turn it on for the first time. Of course you are free to do what you want to. If you are anything like me... You probably have already done this and are reading this review after the fact (wishing you would have read just a liiiiiittle bit further) when you can see it between the never-receding after-images that have probably been permanently burned directly into the retinas of the eyes and if the scholars of old spoke true, the soul. The eyes being the now shattered windows to that place where the sun don't shine. If you are Not like me, well... All of us are not so fortunate. Since I have a year to go before I can actually test this on my bonsai tree, I can not say for certain how this performs in that capacity. In the meantime I am using this so-called desktop lamp to brighten what was certainly, if not completely dismal, a depressing and only slightly eventful future. 10\10 Would blind myself again.

No set up required, really. It is a decent looking lamp and my succulents are doing very well under it's spell. I have other plant lights and this is the only one "acceptable" for the living room. Some are a gross violet hue (I didn't realize what I was ordering) and others are just unattractive, with arms poking out and big metal clips for placing where you need the light. Anyway, this one is attractive and evidenced by my plants growth - works great to give the right whatever light indoor plants need.

I really like this lamp and my plants seem to like it too. It's great for an appartment with limited light for growing plants. I had an issue with the first unit I ordered, it stopped working after a few months. I contacted Hydrofarm and they were really gracious, they replaced the faulty lamp at no charge. I will do business with them again for sure.

Lifesaver for indoor growers that have limited space. I grow succulents at my apartment window and sadly we only have north-west facing windows so we don't usually get enough suns. So I placed the plants that need the most lights underneath and they are definitely loving it. I also use a electric outlet timer so I can control the amount of the time it stays on. Contrary to some of the users, I've been using this lamp since June 2014 and the original bulb is still perfectly fine right now, although I did already buy a replacement just in case.

Very nice grow light without those reds and blues that are an eye sore (to me anyway). Light is bright and strong enough to grow and even make a venus flytrap flower, which require very strong light.

Bought this for my work desk, I moved in a windowless office, my plants were doing ok but the crown of thorn bulbs die before the flowers can bloom, it needs sunlight. I used this light for 2 weeks, I kept it on exactly from 9 to 5 on weekdays and it's off all weekend since I don't have a timer. The plants like it, I absolutely get a lot of new leaves (I mean lots of healthy new shoots and leaves and bulbs) BUT the bulbs still die at a certain stage before it can flower. CONCLUSION, this light is good to keep the plants healthy and steady growth, but not strong enough for flowering. Also keep in mind, it's only good for 2 plants, or 3 smaller plants. I use it on 2 small and 1 medium plants and they're doing very well.

I just bout a bonsai Fukien Tea for my office and knowing it needs lots of light to make flowers, I was worried. This lamp is just perfect. It fits on my desk perfectly and give plenty on light as expected. My bonsai is not blooming crazy!
