No, a clip fits into standard guitar hole

Q: When using it as a neck strap, how are the 2 ends of the strap connected?

They are sewn together. See photo

Q: What is the hook made of --- plastic or rubber? I'm worried about it scratching my expensive uke.

It's made of plastic, and personally I've never had a problem with scratching, but you could, I suppose, apply a small felt pad or two to the inside of the plastic hook?

Fabric is plastic and the strap is very small even for me at 5'. Bought another different model.Wished I had returned this item but too late.
