Hold Me Now: The Very Best Of Thompson Twins

I felt like I had to give this 5 stars to balance out all the bad reviews - it is clearly wrongly titled "the very best of" - and for people looking for a Twins greatest hits should choose a better option. But this cd for 8 dollars is a great package and had a good variety of Twins songs spanning their whole career. I paid 8 bucks just because it had the word Thomson and Twins on it and i was not disappointed like I thought I would be. So newbies - no, TTwins die hard fans - yes.

If you're a Thompson Twins fan then this is the collection to own.

I’ve always liked the Thompson Twins but never owned any of their music. This two disc set is awesome. I’m not sure why other reviewers mislead. Every hit, B-side and remix are stellar.

I really like this edition, nicely done foldout with black and white photos of the 3 band members. 2 CDs are housed in their respective holding spot. Liner notes are okay, but could have been better. In fact, for a retrospective 2 CD set, I would have expected more.A music writer, Ian Peel, does a good job of describing the band, etc., but that is about it for the liner notes other than the colorful cover photo.The 1st CD is decent...17 tracks total including Let Loving Start (12" version).I personally would not have included JUDY DO or TEARS on this. Although okay tracks in my opinion, their is certainly better to choose from. GET THAT LOVE, ROLLOVER, LOVE LIES BLEEDING, are a few that come to mind that are missing here.2nd CD is good...several songs extended or various mixes, plus other hits including IF YOU WERE HERE from the 1984 movie SIXTEEN CANDLES.17 tracks total. I don't believe there are any tracks on this set from the band's last 2 albums. Especially 1989.I specifically recall hearing a tune ...Sugar Daddy, who's gonna make you happy?! Very catchy tune.Overall package for this Edition, 4 Stars.If you are going to call it the Very Best, at least make an effort to get the great single GET THAT LOVE, and a few of their last 2 albums they ever did.I still love this band to this day. Great music. Was every song a memorable hit? No, but they had some in those years that made it.

Die Thompson Twins waren eine britische New-Wave-Band der 1980er Jahre, die sich im April 1977 in Sheffield zunächst als Quartett formierte. Zwischen 1981 und 1985 entstanden immerhin 10 Studioalben. Ihr erfolgreichstes Line-Up mit Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie und Joe Leeway entstand erst nach Einspielung des ersten Albums und hielt bis zum Ausstieg von Leeway 1986. In dieser Zeit hatten sie allerdings etliche Hits und waren ständig in den Charts vertreten.Diese Doppel-CD aus dem Jahr 2016 mit 34 Tracks und einer Laufzeit von 77:21 und 77.54 Minuten enthält Studioaufnahmen aus den Jahren 1981-1987, darunter natürlich all ihre erfolgreichen Singleauskoppelungen und logischerweise auch ein paar Stücke, die man nicht kennt, wenn man niemals einen Longplayer der Band besessen hat. Letztendlich finde ich aber fast alles davon ziemlich gut, deutlich mehr als ich gedacht hätte. Nachdem sich fast alle bekannten Hits auf der ersten Scheibe befanden sah ich für die zweite etwas schwarz. Aber die Remixe gefallen mir alle, und die letzten Tracks widmen sich verdientermaßen größtenteils der Frühphase der Band, in der die Formation noch wesentlich gitarrenorientierter war als zu Zeiten ihrer Charterfolge. Musik, die man nicht mit ihnen in Verbindung bringen würde, wenn man nur diese kennt- aber von hoher Qualität und eine echte Überraschung für mich.
