We have limited space in our ceiling fan light kit.** A: It lenghtens the socket by a good 2 - 2.5 inchs depending on the light base you are screwing into the socket. I had to discard these as the lights stood out way over the edge of the shades on a floor lamp. **Q: Are these made with a porcelin base (as opposed to another brand which is cardboard)?** A: These are bakelite plastic, with aluminum and brass inserts, and a stainless E14 shell. No wires. The center electrode is one piece, and the two shells are connected via a brass strap and a screw. Bakelite is rated for 250C constant temperature, and these claim 200C limit. You should be able to use any 120W or lower bulb in any fixture. Temperatures for higher wattages will depend on the bulb and fixture. **Q: Any reason why this wouldn't work with LED bulbs?** A: My LEDS work in them, the only issue I have is that the bulbs are a lot bigger then the standard candle bulbs. I had to dismantle my light on my fan for the LED bulbs and adapters to fit inside of the glass.
