A modern classic
This is simply a great calculator - well worth the five stars and very good value for money. I have no doubt this calculator will be a modern classic and a big sales succes for HP: many serious calculator users have been waiting for this little machine. The HP 35S can be used as an RPN calculator, which is a simple and intuitive input method traditionally used by HP. RPN is superior when compared to the awkward and error-prone input method used on most modern calculators - if you want, you can use this standard input method as well (a concession to the sales department at HP) It has many, many functions, many of which are useful and most of which are easy to access. Especially the "solve" function is much more useful than I ever anticipated: it can numerically solve a complicated equation without the need for rearranging the equation; this is a feature that I didn't know I needed until I bought the machine! The calculator is fully programmable: great fun and very powerful - but something I have had little use for upto now. The memory is quite big: plenty to keep all my useful equations in memory. The build quality is good. The calculator is robust and has an old-fashioned, solid feel to it. The hard case is very useful: the calculator can be used without taking it out of the case. The beautiful design is both pleasing and ergonomic. The user guide is comprehensive as you would expect (and hope) for such a powerful calculator with additional material available on the HP site. In short: the HP 35S is powerful, easy to use, sturdy, and good-looking - look no further for a serious scientific calculator.

A Quality Calculator
I like HP calculators as they are well built and last. My HP 41C came to the end of its life after nearly 40 years of use. Bought it in the early 80's when they first came out. The most obvious replacement staying with HP is the HP 35 S so purchased one. Build quality is top class perhaps not as good as my 41C but still far superior to other makes of calculator that I have used. It has more features and functions. Programming is OK however not having the card reader is a negative. That said I rarely program on a calculator nowadays and tend to use a laptop. This is a homage to the old HP 35, perhaps HP will release a homage calculator for the 41C. Now that would be a must buy.

retro HP RPN
Not made or designed by HP. it is a retro calculator in the HP 35 / HP41C RPN step-branch-loop non object manner. the retro keyboard is very welcoming after the english-designed HP49/50 object-like machine, which is superb but un HP like. Looks very good, keyboard doesn't bounce like the HP49/50 . barely adequate memory, for a few step programs, not hackable as far as I can see. reasonably accurate , metric units, display not backlit. If you just want a four-function calculator or spreadsheet, this is far better and may make you curious about all the maths you forgot since grade school. does ISG /DSE loops and lots. Big reference book is a bit brief on its actual capabilities. Value at the price.

A Great Calculator
This is a superb calculator for those of us who prefer RPN, as any engineer, scientist or intelligent person surely must. The other great advantage of a RPN calculator is that most people don't "borrow" it from your desk, never to return it. Or at least if they do they soon put it back once they can't figure out how it works! If you're not familiar with RPN then buy this unit and inside 10 minutes you will see how much easier and smarter it is compared to the usual and inferior Arithmetic Notation units.

An elegant tool for a more civilized age
Of course it's much less smart than the calculator on my phone and much less capable than anything I can fire up in seconds on the computer I'm writing this on, but, still, the physicality of the object, the feedback of the keys, the reasoning needed when using RPN (it does algebraic, for the kids in the audience), the limited UI, and the whole tactile experience are exceedingly pleasant. Also, when doing calculations with it, there is no chance I'll be interrupted by an e-mail asking to rate it. Get one while they are still made.

Powerful & impressive
Just getting started with the HP35. If you're reading this then you are probably aware of it's capabilities anyway. You'll need to take time with the quick start manual (50 pages) and the CD rom which has the full manual (380 pages) Good value for money as well

Woks all ok note seems to be a earlier version, but same as current.
Originally ordered a f2215aa#b12 (current model number from a different supplier), but that had faulty buttons. The model of this is a earlier type, but I think they are all the same. Slip case is better as it has a flock lining so calc does not stick in it. Buttons seem slightly softer in action than model listed above but they all work ok.

My original calculator still works fine despite being heavily used over 40 years(
Having used RPN calculators since I bought my first Hewlett Packhard (32SII) one as a student, I am never very confident with 'normal' calculators. My original calculator still works fine despite being heavily used over 40 years(!) and being dropped many times, but I decided I wanted a second one so I could leave one at work and one at home. Not surprisingly, HP don't make the same model any more so I bought this one which looks like it is the nearest equivalent. It works OK but I prefer the earlier model which was much thinner and had less info on the screen at one time. After buying this I managed to get a second hand 32SII version on ebay.

Excellent calculator, big screen numbers, RPN, programmable, Scientific, X & Y stack shown
The keys feel is like in the old good HP calculators - NICE. It is the closest replacement for the HP41C for daily use, except that it has not so much program memory, nor firmware attachments, nor device attachments (firmware and card reader), nor connection to printer, etc. Dear HP: when are we going to get a modern version of the venerable HP41CX ??. Don't get me wrong: I love this HP35s, but I'm still waiting for the MODERN HP41CX. HP launched the HP Prime Graphing calc, which I also have, but is NOT the same. Yes, it's powerful (too powerful I should say). Just get us the HP41CX with new attachments and wireless connection to PC so I can get running again the Gazillions of programs done for it !!. This HP35s is now my day to day calculator in the meantime. A step ahead, well done HP, keep going... !!.
