Matter and Form MFS1V1 3D Scanner-Black/White

I gave this 2 stars purely for the build quality which is good and for the fact it's probably the best laser scanner available under the £1000 mark.But I sent mine back as I've come to conclusion that laser scanning just isn't ready for prime time yet, at least not at prices affordable to the non-professional market.I did manage a couple of decent scans with the Matter & Form scanner but unless the object has minimal detail, is matt and not too dark in colour, the results are poor in my opinion.I've now turned my attention to structured light scanning which is in a completely different league.With SLS, scans are much higher quality with way more detail and take a fraction of the time it takes a laser scanner to do a full scan.

If you want a scanner that produces crisp corners this is not the one, To test it I 3d printed a cube, scanned it using this equipment, the actual colour scan didn't look too bad, but by the time it's done the mesh all the edges were rounded off as were the corners.I shall be sending mine back as it is of no use to me

For first this is the only really portable table scanner. The quality of the scanning depend from the scanner setting and the room lighting condition. This last condition is crucial for every laser scanner which you use. To achieve good results you need to study the good documentation that you can download from the website. Not very good texture. The software is constantly being improved. The customer assistance is efficient, prompt response to the questions. Below some screenshots of a scan of a fossil shell (only one scann, no editing).

If you expect fine details and fast 3D scanning - this is not the scanner for you. The ideal object for scanning is matt surface and light gray color without sharp edges. Placing a white background, using diffuse light and avoiding direct sunlight improves the scans.It's good for learning and not so good for professional use.

Who says cheapest isn't always the best, this scanner proves the theory wrong, I bought a dearer scanner a while back and the resulting scan from it would make Quasimodo handsome.

difficult to set up with good lighting, could do with adding LEDs perhaps?
