After more than ten years, the battery in my Casio ProTrek PRW-1500 solar powered watch was not charging as it should and not giving enough power to provide full functionality despite showing an H [High] symbol. After much research I found this was the required battery and made the purchase.You will need a few special tools to get into the watch and perform the change [small cross-head screwdriver (to open/remove back plate), a pin (to release battery clip), plastic tweezers (to handle battery), needlepoint metal tweezers (to reset after battery change)], but the procedure is fairly straightforward, if but a little fiddly.N.B. Be careful not to remove or lose the tiny springs that are in the body of the watch, nor of course the screws you have removed. After battery replacement, ensure body of watch is seated well and that the spring loaded buttons are in position. One may need to gently prise back the spring on the body to get it to sit in the correct position behind the button.After changing the battery, resetting and replacing the back there is an unnerving wait as the watch appears, at first, to be non functioning. The C [Charging only] flashes and the time begins at 12:00 on 1/1/2008. However after a few minutes in bright sunlight, it was soon showing an M [Medium charge] whereupon one can go ahead and adjust the watch to the correct time, recalibrate the altimeter, compass etc. The R/C [radio-control] time reception kicked-in automatically soon thereafter but failed to set the watch to the correct time, but overnight did finally update.While there are a few LCD elements that have partially failed after 12 years, there's still some life in this watch yet. And for £11 to restore its full functionality for another few years, this was definitely a worthwhile purchase.After all, a new equivalent Casio ProTrek can cost in the region of £300+. So all in all a good product and reasonably priced. But perhaps only for individuals adept at repairing fiddly, small and tricky items.

When this turned up I set about putting it in my waveceptor straight away. The battery had been failing for a while and I had turned off the hourly signal and automatic update to eak a bit more out of it - should have replaced it months ago. I had updated the watch every few days under a bright light - which usually worked, but is obviously not a long term solution.Anyway, I had read the reviews that mentioned the 3 springs and i still managed to drop one of them twice - down on the carpet looking for something that small was a pain, but fortunately successful. I got the watch back together, not forgetting to short the battery out for a couple of seconds and it didn't want to work. The LCD display was showing and I was able to manually change the time, but that was it. On the window sill for a few minutes - nothing. I was concerned that I had done something wrong - but I walked out of the building into the bright sunshine and within a minute all was working brilliantly. The anaolgue hands were not the same as the digital and I had to manually adjust - but I now have everything working on my watch as if new (it's not new, it getting fairly tatty, but that is the poor design of the watch) and 24 hours after fitting it has updated overnight and is deadly accurate as it used to be. I used silicone grease on the seal.

Not used yet as can't open my watch back but it's packed ok and a lot cheaper than buying in the High St.

I would suggest watching a few videos on you tube for CASIO watches as you need to do a reset by connecting two parts of the watch. Easy when you know how, and have found your glasses. It varies from watch to watch too.
