Older women as holders of knowledge and experience. The format is a narrative inquiry and resonates like dimly perceived and remembered conversations at the kitchen table at family get togethers after the kitchen was cleaned up after dinner. The matriarchs would catch up with each other and compare notes and perspectives. The women in this collection are geographically separate but they are equal stakeholders in the conversation. This is truly “Women’s Ways of Knowing” Belinky etc all. and “In a Different Voice” Gilligan. It is delightful and enlightening to read and a joy to hear voices that are so often marginalized or silenced. I have bought several copies to share with my daughter and friends.

I gave this to my therapist who is going for a PhD in gerontology. She said it's such a wonderful book to read! She loves it! (So it was a great gift!!! )

As an RN who has worked with the dying patient and family, I found the author's insights and experiences plausible and helpful in recognizing the needs of hospice care recipients beyond the basics. She has been given a gift and sharing it here is beneficial to others.

Interesting to read about other womens lives and what they learned from living. Their little quotes about life. It was interesting and I'm glad that I read it.

I was drawn to this book as I enter my seventh decade. The stories of this diverse group of women, some of whom are centenarians, give insight to women of incredible intestinal fortitude, kindness, independence, sacrifice, self-discovery, determination, and love. It is a book of lessons to be learned, lessons to be taught, and a model for a life well-lived.

This is such a wonderful treasure chest of insights, recollections and words to live by from women from around the world. Many people think aging is a bad thing. After reading this book, they will realize that aging creates a resource of knowledge that women can hand down to their daughters, granddaughters and beyond. Great reading! A delight to add to anyone's library. Thanks Dr. Frankel for this amazing collection of women!

The women interviewed are all amazing and great role models no matter what your age. As an over-seventy, they are my Sheroes. There are short quotes and longer interviews with women who lead active lives (led in some cases), whether working inside or outside the home. Some of the quotes will make you shake your head in recognition; others will make you laugh. All will make you think.It's impossible to read this book without feeling wonderful!

Purchased for my 80 yr old friend`s birthday but had a read first . What a great book , I recommend it for anyone who reflects on life , past and present. Would recommend to anyone of any age .

This brought back so many memories of my childhood, as recounted by my grandmother and mother. Indeed, there is great value in what women have to contribute, since day one. This book illustrates one of the best kept secrets. Let's wake up and put our resources to work!

Stories speak, and these stories really speak. Lois has a knack of getting to the heart of things and these stories - I was hooked at 'Witty, Wicked & Wise' and still am.
