Q: How bright does the 40 watt bulb look in a room? Is it dimmer compared to a regular 40 watt bulb in a regular type of lamp- can I use to replace my regular lamp that uses a 40 watt bulb?

in reply to everyone.. the larger sizes like the 12" come with a 40 watt bulb according to the description.. all questions are lumped together with all sizes so people who got the smaller are replying that it only comes with a 25w bulb. But in reply to the main question, of course it's dimmer in this lamp as the light is passing through a brick of salt.. it will more just make the salt lamp glow.. see attached pictures in the picture section.. the larger sizes are thicker and thus even with a higher wattage bulb, the light won't pass through to the outside any brighter.. it just takes that much more to make that size glow like the smaller version..

Q: I was wondering if I can leave the lamp on all the time? If so, why and is it recommended?

I bought mine June 2012, I have cleaned it every 6 months and that is the only time I turned it off. It still has the original bulb runs 24/7.

There is a bulb. Make sure it's tight and turn on with switch

Q: How do you replace the lightbulb? Seems like the base should unscrew but i am afraid to break it.

The plastic part really just pulls out of the wooden base with a little twist.
